Good morning sweet friends and readers!
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful spring completing projects, cleaning up the yard, and welcoming the planting season. We had a busy but productive spring here as we cleaned out both middle and younger sons’ basements, as well as one of our storage containers – all stuff that we had stored last summer as we readied our old house for sale in anticipation of our move to the new house. I’m so glad that’s done. Next on the to-do list is the garage and it is a project that exceeds the combined scope of the other three projects accomplished this spring but is sorely needed. ‘Nuff said.
In happier news, today I am joining 16 other talented ladies in a summer blog hop hosted by the fabulous Rita from Panoply as we share our tablescape inspiration for the upcoming season. Thank you, Rita, as always, for your wonderful talents in organizing these hops, and for your many other talents that you share. The links to my fellow table stylists’ can be found at the end of this post.
I considered and discarded several different tablescape ideas for this hop, mostly because I couldn’t find/didn’t have this, that, or the other thing for a centerpiece, and I’m reluctant to buy anything new until I have all my old items sorted out and visible. So I changed gears and set this table with what I could find for a centerpiece in the garage. Much easier than digging aimlessly through random bags and (unlabeled) boxes. Luckily, a water hyacinth sailboat wrapped in clear plastic was obvious and shortly after that, I found some water hyacinth placemats that were on the top of a bag of fabric placemats.

Let me start with the place settings. Pottery Barn clam salad plates sit atop sculpted seashell dinner plates.

The fish placemats were a Pier 1 purchase that very last summer before they closed in 2020. Flatware is made by Annova – no pattern name – and it’s a bit precarious on the fish placemats.

A seashell napkin ring encases teal/aqua and beige striped napkins that match the table runner.

Stemware was stemless crackled champagne glasses and some DIY jute and shell wine glasses. I originally made two of these wine glasses as an experiment several years ago. You can see the wine glasses and the dishes here. The idea for them came from an Etsy store that was selling similar glasses, but I can’t remember if the price was $35.00 for one or for two champagne glasses. Either way, I was pretty sure I could make some myself for much less. The Etsy store was/is called RusticBeachChic.

I made four more wineglasses for this table and added some blue seashells to accent the blue in the napkins and table runner.

Here are some close-ups; you can embellish them as little or as much as you like.

For the centerpiece, I filled the sailboat with faux flowers – dahlias, chrysanthemums, and a lone hydrangea.

I’ve christened her the S.S. Dahlia. Please climb aboard and come sail away in the setting sun. I can’t promise you any reprieve from the Canadian forest fires’ smoke if you’ve been getting some, as I heard that it crossed the Atlantic into the U.K. and has descended as far south as Cuba. But there should be some lovely ocean breezes.
In all seriousness though, while there are forest fires in many places, the northern parts of our three prairie provinces here have been hit hard this year. My heart goes out to all those that have been evacuated. I hope that all their houses and businesses survive.

Some seashells for table scatter and the table was done.

Kim, I love how you created a table that feels like a breeze off the water! The nautical touches are so classic and fresh—perfect for summer. Your woven sailboat centerpiece had me ready to set sail. Just beautiful! ⚓️💙
Thanks so much Jennifer for your sweet comments. I loved your table as well. It was a great blog hop and it was fun hopping with you. I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Kim, this is a delightful setting for a summer’s day or evening! It just transports me to the beach with a view of graceful sailboats gliding past. The flowers are particularly striking on the wonderful hyacinth sailboat and the whimsical placemats are a perfect accompaniment. I liked your creative touch with the stemware and their natural colors and textures. The runner and napkins capture the different colors of water on a sunny day. Have a wonderful summer!
Hi Sandra. Thanks for your lovely comments and the compliments on the stemware. I was determined to work with what I had on hand here and I’m so glad you liked the table. As always, it was great hopping with you and I hope you have a wonderful summer as well!
Kim! Your S. S. Dahlia is such a wonderful centerpiece!! And who would have thought -Home Depot!! That is great! Your coastal table looks beautiful and inviting from all the texture with the water hyacinth placemats and centerpiece to the calming colors in the napkins and table runner. I am glad you ran across the sailboat in the garage because you created a beautiful table with it!! I hope you have a wonderful summer!!
Hi Ann. Yes, I know Home Depot seems an unusual place to find tabletop stuff, but honestly, they actually have a decent selection. You never see it in the store, only online, though. It must have been a water hyacinth summer that year because I found the placemats and sailboat at two different places. Thanks for your lovely comments and I hope you have a wonderful summer too!
Kim, I love using a good nautical theme as much as a patriotic theme for summer tables. Your seaside vibe is perfect. Love the plates and fish placemats and the beautiful shade of blue in the linens. Thank you for sharing this pretty setting. Have a grand summer!
Thanks for you sweet comments Sarah and I loved your patriotic table and your wonderful collection. I hope you have a very grand summer as well!
Great beach theme, Kim. You can set a table at my home from what ever you find. It will be beautiful. Loved the rattan fish place mats and how they tied in with your centerpiece. It gave the whole table a breezy summer feel. I could almost hear the waves lapping on the bottom of the boat. The soothing blue and white colors also reinforced the water theme. What a great way to spend a summer day. Wishing you a wonderful summer.
Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Lynne, thanks so much for your lovely comments. It was a fun table to put together once I found everything and I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Oh, for a beach getaway – here’s wishing! It was great hopping with you and I hope you have a wonderful summer as well!
Happy June Kim! I’d love to set sail on the S.S. Dahlia! ⛵ Love the texture the sailboat and hyacinth placemats provide. The aqua striped runner and napkins evoke the perfect ocean waters and sandy beaches and your shell napkin rings tie everything together beautifully. 🐚 You did a great job on your wine glasses with the addition of the twine and shells! We’ve experienced the smoke from your Canadian wildfires…so scary, thoughts and prayers for those affected and in danger of losing their homes and livelihoods. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Wishing you a wonderful summer and good luck with your garage project! 💙
Mary, thanks so much for your lovely comments. I was really glad to find the sailboat and the placemats in the garage – who knows what other treasures are out there. So happy that you liked the wine glasses; they were part tedious, part fun, but I’m glad I did them. I hope the smoke is gone now where you live – there has been some cautious optimism here about getting some of the fires under control so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It was great hopping with you too and wishing you a wonderful summer as well!
Too many shells and starfish on the table, I’d be worried about sand and dormant parasites getting into the food.
Hi there. I would have to say that these shells were spotlessly clean – nothing but a bit of seashell dust in the packages. I think they have to be cleaned just so before they can come in the country (they were imported from China). But if you are concerned about microorganisms and the like, the most common recommendation is to soak shells in water and chorine bleach overnight. Thanks for visiting.
Kim, I suddenly felt so much at peaceful seeing this serene coastal tablescape. The colors and use of natural elements like your ship and shells gave me an immediate feeling that of relaxation as if I am sitting on a beach and watching the sailboats come in to the harbor. The delicate aqua striped napkins and table runner are a perfect representation of the carribean blue waters. The texture you use are those found at seaside. I can almost smell the fresh cool breeze looking at the table as the sunset strikes each piece. It is like watching the sunset and the glow it produces across the water. So beautiful. Enjoy and have a great summer.
Oh Marsha, thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am so glad the table delighted your senses, and truth be told, that is what I was hoping for. I too, can imagine watching the sunset across the water by evening and the breeze on the beach and sailboats on the water by day. Such a lovely picture in my mind and I would love to sail away. It was great hopping with you and I hope you have the most wonderful summer!
Hello Kim! I love your coastal table, it speaks of summers at the beach. The water hyacinth sailboat is the perfect centerpiece. Clam plates from Pottery Barn are so perfect for this theme as they sit atop sculpted seashell dinner plates. The wine glasses with the shells are brilliant and you are so creative to make them. I miss Pier 1, a great decision to purchase the fish placemats. I would gladly sail away on the S.S. Dahlia! I enjoyed my visit and it is a treat to hop with you, my friend!
Pam, thank you so much for your sweet comments – you are always such an inspiration to me. I love living near the mountains but I am a beach girl at heart – the sound of waves crashing on the shore is my happy place! I miss Pier 1 too – a lot. Yes, do come sail away with me – where shall we go – the Caribbean? Yes, please. It is always a treat to hop with you too, my friend, and I hope you have a most wonderful summer!
This is a beautifully styled coastal table, Kim. You did well, digging through the abyss of the garage! (I got a little ptsd from reading your spring chores description, as my move and purge of 2018 still comes back to mind, and now having cleaned out my sister’s apt in SC last November, it’s like another traumatic experience of purging). Your plate stack on those water hyacinth fish is really classy looking, and I love the soft colors of the textiles and shells. It all reminds me of the colors of Grand Cayman, our favorite destination island. The way in which you placed your napkins is quite stylish – duly noted! The sailboat is a beauty – a keeper! A great summer look for our blog hop, and I thank you for taking time out of the ongoing work of your move to be a part of our summer hop. Here’s to a productive spring and summer coming! Take time for some fun, too!
Oh my gosh Rita – you have described the garage perfectly – an abyss! I really have to deal with it this summer because I don’t want to park outside again another winter. I was glad to find the sailboat and placemats though – who knows what other forgotten treasures I will find there when I clean and organize. Thanks so much for your comments and for organizing these blog hops – they are always filled with so much creativity. You are the best! Happy summer and happy gardening!
You win the prize for the best summer textures. I love this post (and table) so much! The centerpiece is fabulous! The goblets are great. I love the woven seagrass, and the shells are so much fun. You are ready for summer! The little napkin rings are so pretty. I truly love your tablescape. It reminds me of a spa, and it’s relaxing to look at. Happy summer!
Ricki Jill, thank you for your sweet comments. I remembered the sailboat but I had truly forgotten about the fish placemats until I came across them in the garage so I was really glad to rediscover them! I loved your table too. It was so fun hopping with you and happy summer to you too!
Kim, your table is lovely. The woven sailboat is a conversation piece and looks great with the fish placemats. Love the added aqua napkins. How fun are the seashell goblets. Shopping your house is a fantastic idea. I am ready to sail away.
Thanks Linda. Hubs loves the sailboat too and thinks I should leave it up all summer – problem is that I don’t really have a good place for it. So glad you like the table and it was great hopping with you – yes, indeed, come sail away. I hope you have a wonderful summer!
I love all things coastal, so you really caught my attention with this. The fish placemats are phenomenal! How did I miss those? Honestly, I used to be at Pier One every single week to check out what was new. I also stalked Pottery Barn, and wonder how I missed those clam plates. The sailboat in the center is outstanding! I will say that I have a wicker basket in the shape of a whale with an arching, curved tail that I really should put to use in a tablescape this summer. You have really inspired me with your beautiful table.
Pattie, confession here. I used to be at Pier 1 nearly every week as well – they knew me by name in the store lol. The placemats were an online order so maybe there were never in the stores; our stores closed at the end of February here in Canada. And yes, I’m a stalker of Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma too. I hope you use your whale basket on a table – I’m sure it will be gorgeous and I can’t wait to see it. Thanks for your comments and I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Kim, your table is beautiful and perfect for summertime. The shell plates are so pretty and elegant. The woven boat makes such a lovely centerpiece. It is always a treat to hop with you. I hope that you have a wonderful summer!
Shannon, it is always a treat to hop with you too! Thanks for your comments and I hope you have a wonderful summer as well – enjoy your beautiful porch!
Kim, your coastal themed summer table is absolutely lovely! Happy summer, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Thanks Cecilia! It was great hopping with you and I hope you have a wonderful summer too!
Oh aren’t those shell plates adorable?! How fun that you just went scavenging for your table setting – that’s so much fun, even though I feel your pain with not know what all you have! The fish placemats are darling, and as always, your color choices are lovely! Love the DIY wine glasses – you are so creative! So happy to sail away on the SS Dahlia! Thanks for another fabulous table my friend, and stay safe up there!
Thanks so much for your comments Barbara – scavenging would accurately describe the garage lol. I had to make a little path so we could get in and out. I started the wine glasses several years ago and added another four for this table – glad you liked them – they were work but fun too. Happy to have you join me on the SS Dahlia to sail away (if only). So fun hopping with you and I hope you have a great summer my friend!
This is such a clever and unique setting . I LOVE the stemware – what a clever idea and a fabulous way to use up the shells we find at the beach (and never know what to do with them!). The place mats made me smile – adorbs! This soothing table is so welcoming and I would enjoy being a guest here. Enjoy the summer!
Thanks Patti – some of my favorite tables to set are beach themed – probably wishful thinking on my part since we are miles away from any ocean lol. You are a welcome guest here anytime – just let me know if you are ever this way. Great hopping with you and happy June!
Hi Kim! Once again you have created a fabulous table! So perfect for summer, you have brought the beach to your dining room! I love love the woven sailboat, wow! It looks so pretty filled with white blooms. The matching fish placemats and PB beach plates topped with the soft blue striped napkins with the centerpiece are breath-taking! I love the shell base and the twine stems on the wine glasses, I just might have to make some 🙂
Ha, Jenna, I hope you do make some wine glasses – I’m sure they will be gorgeous. I was going to do a post on them but I don’t have enough pictures. The only tip I can offer is that you have to start winding the jute at the thinnest part of the stem and leave two tails long enough to finish the top and the bottom. Thanks for visiting and your sweet comments and I hope everything is going well for you down there!
Gorgeous Kim…as always!! As an east coaster – loving the nautical theme! We’ve had smokey skies here in Prince Edward Island from the fires – hard to believe. I pray for everyone’s safety! Have an awesome day, my friend!!
Thanks so much Charlotte! We had about a week of smoke last week but nothing since, so yes, hard to believe. I hope your smoke is gone now too. Thanks for visiting my friend, and I hope you have an awesome day too!
