Good morning!
I hope everyone had a great fall. I’m not sure where October and November went as we head into the winter season with Christmas bearing down on us. We’ve been pretty lucky here so far weatherwise with only a couple of snowfalls that didn’t stay, except for the most recent one on the weekend of November 22nd. Here is a picture taken of the patio outside a restaurant where my mom and I had lunch on November 23rd. This system brought with it some really cold temps – running around 15 degrees below normal. Yup, winter arrived with a vengeance! However, we have moved to more normal temps this week and hopefully some of the snow will melt.
Today, I am joining 14 other fabulously creative ladies to share our Christmas tablescapes in a blog hop hosted by our talented leader, Rita, from Panoply. Whether you are following along in order coming from Jenna at The Painted Apron (is her table not beautiful?!) or have arrived here on your own – either way a very warm welcome. The links to all the other stylists’ tables can be found at the end of this post.
The inspiration for this table started with a table setting by Pottery Barn in which they used a cachepot for the centerpiece. Oh my gosh, it was so beautiful that I just had to try making my own version. I’m pretty sure their cachepot was professionally arranged and you can see it here if interested (you might have to scroll through some thumbnails). They also didn’t have the cachepot for sale so I suspect it was part of their staging process.
I went on a hunt for a cachepot and luckily found one at Bed Bath and Beyond. It has a crackle finish that looks like crazing as well as some distressing so I can see it going with several other tables. It was difficult to capture the crackle/crazing but you might be able to see some in this photo – maybe on the rim in the top right corner or on what I might think is a lion’s cheek. Not sure about this…
The place settings started with some Christmas tidings salad plates from Walmart several years ago. I only had four of them so I set the two ends with PB’s merry salad plates. Dinner plates are PB’s Denver plaid that I’ve also had for awhile although haven’t been used on the blog yet.
I tried several different charger plates with the table and ended up with my faux wood ceramic chargers. The napkin rings encase very similar though not identical to the dinner plates (and that’s good) plaid napkins.
The stemware for this table was just so much fun. I had no intention of buying anything new, but I came across these PB knock-off Santa goblets in HomeSense for a fraction of the PB price. It is hard to spot the differences, they are that close. A couple of weeks later, these Christmas balls shot glasses appeared on the shelves. They were a good match for the Santa goblets and since we always have an after dinner liqueur at Christmas (and I can’t find my crystal liqueur glasses), these came home with me. Youngest son and DIL thought they were a hoot and middle DIL wants them. I added some Italian (I think) crystal tumblers for water.
The cachepot is filled with deep red hydrangeas and poinsettias. I added frosted pine cones, greenery, and some winterberries, all from the dollar store.
Here is a view from above.
I couldn’t resist these frosty votive holders with birds, holly, and berries. They were from the dollar store too.
I think I might set this table for our Christmas dinner this year. The cachepot can be easily moved to the sideboard during dinner where it would make a nice decoration and then I could just add some more candles in the center to the table.

Kim, your traditional Christmas tablescape is lovely! The classic combination of red and white with a punch of plaid creates such a timeless and festive atmosphere. I love how you’ve blended elegant details with a cozy, welcoming feel—it’s the perfect setting for making cherished holiday memories. And those shot glasses are the perfect touch of whimsy to make it fun! So glad your family appreciated the humor and joy of them!!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful creativity and inspiring us with your attention to detail. I hope your season was filled with joy, love, and all the magic of Christmas!
Jennifer, thank you so much for your sweet comments – Christmas always seems a good time for plaid (although I like plaid anytime lol). We ended up not using the shot glasses, mainly because I forgot to pick up some kind of funnel so I could get the liqueur in them. I won’t tell you what we used instead lol. But it was all good and all in good fun. Take care over there and I’m wishing you a very happy New Year and a glorious 2025!
Kim, your festive table really sets a wonderful mood for the Christmas season! I have to say that I find the plaids you used irresistible. They are a wonderful base for the pretty china and glassware. The cachepot and florals make a striking centerpiece, complemented by the lovely napkin rings with red bells and pine cones. I’d enjoy this table throughout the holidays. (BTW I love the snow sculptures that started your post! I miss snow. . . ) Have a very merry Christmas!
Hi Sandra. Thanks so much for your sweet comments and I’d have to agree that plaid makes a wonderful base because I loved your plaid table too. It’s just so cozy and hopefully inviting. But ohmygosh, that snow – it was just crazy and there was so much of it. You are welcome to any or all of it lol. Thankfully, we’ve had a week of above zero temps and when mom and I were at the same restaurant yesterday, it was pretty much gone from the patio table and chairs. It was great hopping with you and I wish you a very Merry Christmas too!
Oh my! That overhead shot had me swooning! This is such a beautiful table Kim – elegant and fun – my favorite kind! That little red ornament is adorable! Amazing what you can find at the dollar store, and how extra fun they become when you mix them with your lovely china. So much inspiration here! Happy Holidays my friend!
Barbara, thank you so much for visiting and commenting. I missed you this time around but I am delighted to hear that rehab for your knee is going so well – you’ll be setting tables again in no time! Those little shot glasses are actually glass which was such a surprise to me. I think I’m going to have to find a small funnel to get the liqueurs into them lol. Happy happy holidays to you too my friend!!
Merry December Kim! Wow, that snow is amazing. Snow is a rare occurrence for us, we had our first dusting and snow shower in 3 years this week and it was melted 4 hours later. I love your plate stack with your merry salad plates, plaid and faux bois chargers. Your centerpiece is so festive with your mix of red floral, greenery and snowberry picks. Such sweet bird votives and I love your festive Santa goblets. Your Christmas ornament shot glass are so fun and sure to put a jingle in your bells! 😊 So happy to be hopping with you again. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season! 🎄
Mary, I’m so happy that you got a taste of snow without having to deal with it for a long time, although snow showers does sound like it might be icy?? A fair amount of our snow has melted (thankfully) since our daytime temps have been above zero this week. Thanks for your lovely comments – I loved the one about the shot glasses putting a jingle in your bells! 🌲 It was delightful hopping with you again as well and Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season to you too!
Kim, the snow is amazing! Your table is so merry and festive with the traditional colors of Christmas. Love the red and green. Those plates are lovely and look so pretty with the plaid. Love seeing the overhead shot of your beautiful table. The cachepot filled with flowers is gorgeous. Love the bird votives too. The Santa goblets, and Christmas ball shot glasses are perfect. A lovely table to celebrate Christmas. Always a pleasure joining you. Happy Holidays.
Linda, thank you so much for your comments and visit. The table was a lot of fun to pull together. I wasn’t sure about the cachepot but I ended really liking it and I’m pretty sure I can use it in other tables. Yes, the snow… I don’t know what the final accumulation turned out to be from that system but it looks to be about a foot or so on those patio chairs. Thankfully, our temps have normalized and some of it is melting. It was a pleasure joining you on this hop too and Happy Holidays to you and your family as well!
Kim, this is a perfect winter and Christmas tablescape! Oh gosh, I love the mix of the salads with the Denver dinner plates and white, wood-like chargers. Crazy for plaids, the napkins actually look like a great match from my viewpoint. Love the shot glasses, and those bird votives make me want to jaunt to the DT! They’re so adorable, perfect for all winter long. I really like the runner too. Now, let’s talk about that snow – you can keep that up there in Canada, please! Or else, send the shot glasses. I love how you stated you couldn’t find your crystal liqueur glasses. That’s typical when moving, and it’s probably not the last thing you’ve missed. If my sister & I who moved the SC sister have heard her ask, “where’s my….” once, we’ve heard it dozens of times. Problem is, we did that job so incredibly fast under the time constraint, that neither of us can, at times, remember even seeing the “my….”, let alone know where it is! Like you, I don’t know where Oct-Nov went.
So happy you’ve joined us in this Christmas tablescape hop, and brought the reality of winter for us, along with your cozy, traditional table. Merry holiday season to you and your family, Kim!
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Rita! Yes, all the stuff I am missing which is particularly noticeable at Christmas when you are trying to decorate and wrap presents. I’ve finally finished working and now that I have some time to further unpack and locate, it is too cold – both in the garage and our outside storage. I’m resigned to making do with what I have until spring. Are you sure that you don’t want any snow? I’m happy to send you some lol. Rita, thank you for being the terrific hostess that you are and for organizing these wonderful blog hops. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family too!
That’s a lot of snow. We are finally having some cool weather and today have had some nice rain. Guess winter has arrived here. You plate stack is beautifully festive with the dinner plates and touches of Christmas tartan. I love the cache pot with the lion heads. Great job on your centerpiece!
Happy Holidays!
Oh Sarah, thanks so much for your visit and comments. I’m pleased to say they came through without a hitch. Yay! The cachepot was completely an experiment and I definitely had trouble finding flowers for it (I left it too late methinks), but it seems to have worked out. And I have future plans for it too. I missed you this time around with your exquisite collections and design style; I do hope everything is okay down there in your neck of the woods. So glad for your rain and cooler weather. Happy Holidays to you too lovely lady and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
Give the red, white and plaid theme you used to design your table setting, Kim. The floral centerpiece is beautiful and fits so well with everything on the table. Adding the plaid napkin to the setting really brings out the plaid in the plate stack. The red Santa glasses add a nice touch of whimsy to the table. Wishing you and your family a very merry holiday season.
Lynne
Lynne, thanks so much for your lovely comments and visit. So glad that you liked the table – yours was stunning and these blog hops are just so much fun! I wish you and your family a very merry holiday season as well!
hi Kim! Wow, all that snow! It looks so pretty seeing it in the background of your beautiful Christmas table! I love your red white and green color palette, and the cache pot you found looks beautiful with the poinsettias, greenery, hydrangeas, pine cones and winterberries. Love the plate stacks and how you mixed and matched the end of the table place settings. The red Santa glasses are so much fun and I love the sparkling votive candles. I love the way you styled the napkins too. Such a gorgeous table for you and your family to enjoy this holiday season! I hope your December is very Merry!
Jenna, thank you so much for your sweet comments and visit! I have to say that as much as I complain about the snow, it really does lend a Christmassy feeling. I love setting the table in our kitchen when the sun is shining – it’s just so much fun. I dismantled the table last night but left the cachepot as it was and covered it and put in the garage. I can bring it out again for Christmas dinner. I hope you have a very merry December and wonderful Christmas too!
Kim, as a lover of all things plaid, I adore your place settings with your plaid plates and napkins. The red stemware was a great find! And so cute to pair with the shot ornaments!!
It is all putting me in the Christmas mood especially with all the snow in the background!! I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!!🎄🤶🎉🎊
Hi Ann. I know that you are a lover of plaid and there is something about it that’s very appealing during the holiday season. I was thrilled to find that stemware at HomeSense prices and had not a second’s hesitation in bringing it home with me. I’m glad the table is putting you in the Christmas mood – yours was very delightful too. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year too!
Your tablescape with traditional colors is so pretty. I love your centerpiece, and the little bird votives are fantastic. I love the cardinal one (they’re my favorite bird). I do love your stemware…I agree that it’s lots of fun. Also your plates are cute, too. Lovely table, and I know the snow makes it feel like Christmas!
Hi Ricki Jill. I really liked those frosted bird votives too and I think they will do for the entire winter season. Thank you for your comments and visit and the stemware really was a lot of fun. You are welcome to some of the snow if you like lol. Thankfully some of it has started to melt because it really does cause problems when there is that much of it. Wishing you and your family a most joyous Christmas season!
Kim, wow that snow photo outside the restaurant is amazing. I am happy to read you and your mom were out for lunch. The cachepot is perfect for that gorgeous arrangement. It is stunning on your table. The above shot of your table is beautiful. I just love every detail… plaid plates, merry salad plates, chargers, napkins, and napkin rings. The shot balls are unique and festive. I enjoyed having a seat at your beautiful table. Wishing you a Merry Christmas, my friend!
Hi Pam. Yes, mom and I go out for brunch and shopping every Saturday no matter what the weather for the most part. The day of that snow shot was a bit different as it was so slippery outside I was terrified she might fall so I took her back to her place after lunch and I went straight home as well. Thank you for you lovely comments on the table – it was fun to put together and we will see how the shot glasses work for our Christmas dinner lol. So glad that you enjoyed the table and wishing you a Merry Christmas too, my friend!
Hi Kim, I always seem to gravitate to plaid for the holidays. You absolutely can’t go wrong when you incorporate the classic pattern, esepcially in the tradition colors of red and green. I immediately think of the beautiful traditions of the holiday when I seen you beautiful plate stack with your plaid plates. The stunning floral centerpiece is a show stopper. It certainly conveys elegance especially when it contrasts against the white and pieces of greenery. The top view of your table is exquisite. A beautiful holiday and all winter long tablescape. Merry Christmas.
Oh my goodness Marsha. Thank you so much for your lovely comments – I did have a lot of fun setting this table and I’m so glad that you liked it. Merry Christmas to you too!
Hi Kim! I love your Christmas plates paired with the plaid chargers! It’s such a festive, classic look–pinned! Wishing you a joyous Christmas season, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Hi Cecilia. Thanks so much for your visit, comments, and pinning. I hope you have a joyous Christmas season as well!
I adore this table – the plaid plates and napkins are so festive and your salad plates add a bit of whimsy to your table. Lovely centerpiece and I would enjoy sitting at this table – I will sit at the JOY plate! Enjoy the holiday season!
Hi Patti. Of course you can come and sit at the Joy place setting! Thank you for your sweet comments and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season too!
Wow Kim – what an absolutely gorgeous tables cape!! So festive – and it will make a stunning set for Christmas dinner!! Well done!!
I see what you mean about the snow! Ugh.
Hah Charlotte – yes all that snow, ugh. It’s a bit much for so early in the season and technically, it’s not even winter yet lol. However, temps have been warmer this week and some is melting thankfully. I’m glad you liked the table and thanks so much for your comment and visit. Happy holiday season to you!
