Good morning!

I hope everyone had a great fall.  I’m not sure where October and November went as we head into the winter season with Christmas bearing down on us.  We’ve been pretty lucky here so far weatherwise with only a couple of snowfalls that didn’t stay, except for the most recent one on the weekend of November 22nd.  Here is a picture taken of the patio outside a restaurant where my mom and I had lunch on November 23rd.  This system brought with it some really cold temps – running around 15 degrees below normal.  Yup, winter arrived with a vengeance!  However, we have moved to more normal temps this week and hopefully some of the snow will melt.

Today, I am joining 14 other fabulously creative ladies to share our Christmas tablescapes in a blog hop hosted by our talented leader, Rita, from Panoply.  Whether you are following along in order coming from Jenna at The Painted Apron (is her table not beautiful?!) or have arrived here on your own – either way a very warm welcome.   The links to all the other stylists’ tables can be found at the end of this post.

The inspiration for this table started with a table setting by Pottery Barn in which they used a cachepot for the centerpiece.  Oh my gosh, it was so beautiful that I just had to try making my own version.  I’m pretty sure their cachepot was professionally arranged and you can see it here if interested (you might have to scroll through some thumbnails).  They also didn’t have the cachepot for sale so I suspect it was part of their staging process.

I went on a hunt for a cachepot and luckily found one at Bed Bath and Beyond.  It has a crackle finish that looks like crazing as well as some distressing so I can see it going with several other tables.  It was difficult to capture the crackle/crazing but you might be able to see some in this photo – maybe on the rim in the top right corner or on what I might think is a lion’s cheek.  Not sure about this…

The place settings started with some Christmas tidings salad plates from Walmart several years ago.  I only had four of them so I set the two ends with PB’s merry salad plates.  Dinner plates are PB’s Denver plaid that I’ve also had for awhile although haven’t been used on the blog yet.

I tried several different charger plates with the table and ended up with my faux wood ceramic chargers.  The napkin rings encase very similar though not identical to the dinner plates (and that’s good) plaid napkins.

The stemware for this table was just so much fun.  I had no intention of buying anything new, but I came across these PB knock-off Santa goblets in HomeSense for a fraction of the PB price.  It is hard to spot the differences, they are that close.  A couple of weeks later, these Christmas balls shot glasses appeared on the shelves.  They were a good match for the Santa goblets and since we always have an after dinner liqueur at Christmas (and I can’t find my crystal liqueur glasses), these came home with me. Youngest son and DIL thought they were a hoot and middle DIL wants them.  I added some Italian (I think) crystal tumblers for water.

The cachepot is filled with deep red hydrangeas and poinsettias.  I added frosted pine cones, greenery, and some winterberries, all from the dollar store.

Here is a view from above.

I couldn’t resist these frosty votive holders with birds, holly, and berries.  They were from the dollar store too.

I think I might set this table for our Christmas dinner this year.  The cachepot can be easily moved to the sideboard during dinner where it would make a nice decoration and then I could just add some more candles in the center to the table.

  1. Your tablescape with traditional colors is so pretty. I love your centerpiece, and the little bird votives are fantastic. I love the cardinal one (they’re my favorite bird). I do love your stemware…I agree that it’s lots of fun. Also your plates are cute, too. Lovely table, and I know the snow makes it feel like Christmas!

  2. Kim, wow that snow photo outside the restaurant is amazing. I am happy to read you and your mom were out for lunch. The cachepot is perfect for that gorgeous arrangement. It is stunning on your table. The above shot of your table is beautiful. I just love every detail… plaid plates, merry salad plates, chargers, napkins, and napkin rings. The shot balls are unique and festive. I enjoyed having a seat at your beautiful table. Wishing you a Merry Christmas, my friend!

  3. Hi Kim, I always seem to gravitate to plaid for the holidays. You absolutely can’t go wrong when you incorporate the classic pattern, esepcially in the tradition colors of red and green. I immediately think of the beautiful traditions of the holiday when I seen you beautiful plate stack with your plaid plates. The stunning floral centerpiece is a show stopper. It certainly conveys elegance especially when it contrasts against the white and pieces of greenery. The top view of your table is exquisite. A beautiful holiday and all winter long tablescape. Merry Christmas.

  4. Hi Kim! I love your Christmas plates paired with the plaid chargers! It’s such a festive, classic look–pinned! Wishing you a joyous Christmas season, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
