Good morning!
Oh my goodness! Mother’s Day totally crept up on me this year. I don’t know why but I was thinking I had another week. Nope, I don’t so I better get cracking if I’m going to set a Mother’s day table. I’m not sure what Mother’s Day will hold for us this year, at least as far as my mom is concerned because she fell off a step ladder a few days ago and broke one the vertebrae in her back. Yikes! We were told that there is nothing that can be done for it except healing on its own. But she’s pretty sore; I should mention that she turned 92 this January. But I think she’d be okay for dinner this Sunday and she can sit on our comfy chairs in the dining room (as opposed to the hard chairs in our kitchen where she prefers to sit). So that’s what I’m gearing up for.
Mom loves birds, and I had just the tablescape in mind for her. The inspiration started with these bird on a wire salad plates in white and metallic silver. As always, its difficult to photograph metallics, but you might be able to see a hint of the silver here.
The color palette for the table was influenced in part by these sweet bunny pillows with their orange and blush tones that have been hanging out in the living room for the past month or so.
And in part by what I knew I had in my stash which were these peach/blush napkins, napkin rings, and table runner. This flowered flatware has become my spring go-to, also used here and here. Whoa, this charger is a bright green in this pic…
There was no time to shop for or order anything online so everything else had to come from my stash too. I must say, though, that shopping my home was quite satisfying (and economical too!). The table came together reasonably well, all things considered.
The only glitch was that I didn’t have peach/blush tapers in my stash. All I had were these spring orange tapers – they definitely were not a perfect match nor my preference if I’d had a choice, but I actually didn’t loathe them. They come through slightly more orange in the photos than in real life.
The centerpiece started with my trusty eucalyptus garlands – they were a bit uncooperative this time in that they refused to stay on the table runner. I finally gave in and let them spill over onto the table (and the goblets, and the wine glasses, and the napkins lol). I layered greens plus white and peach/blush flowers on the garland. There was white lavender and dusty miller
white hydrangea and peach dahlias,
and what I think might be white anemones (please correct me if I am wrong),
And white mums and white sprays.
The stemware was my silver mirrored wine glasses and some crystal water goblets. The water goblets are a Bohemian crystal and are new this year; they are really heavy, but I’m happy to finally have something I’m calling a true water goblet.
I switched out the orange tapers with white ones just to see how it would look. I also tucked in a few peachy alstroemeria though its hard to see in this photo. I knew I had the white tapers all along but I wondered whether they might look too wedding-y (if that’s even a word).
.
So I’m curious as to which one people like better. The table with the orange tapers
or the one with the white tapers?
Thanks so much for visiting and wishing all the moms and grandmas out there a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Aww, Kim, this is such a sweet tablescape!
I’m so sorry to hear about your mother! Just an fyi….my husband fell shortly after we moved into our condo (so much for single floor plan living!), but a neurosurgeon ended doing a procedure called kyphoplasty. Check it out. I was talking to the neurosurgeon as to how this procedure came about and its use, and he told me it was basically used “little old ladies” whose vertebrae break (to which I replied, “hey, watch it!”). Anyway, perhaps the thing is they don’t want her to be under anesthesia at 92, but hey, she’s 92, and that’s a good thing! I do hope she heals, and quickly.
Rita, thanks for your comments and for the tip of the kyphoplasty. I did check it out; I’m not sure if general anesthesia was the problem at the time for mom but it was certainly a consideration when she broke her wrist a few years back. But its interesting in that we are now almost a month out from the accident; she ditched the pain killers weeks ago and has resumed her daily walk and has no complaints (although lifting is still an issue). Otherwise, she is doing pretty good (a few winces when she lowers herself into the passenger seat of my car but she is more than happy to go shopping – and that is the barometer with her lol). She is a trouper extraordinaire. I only hope that if I live to 92 that I am like her. I am delighted to hear that the procedure worked for your husband – he is likely too young to be disabled by chronic back pain. Thanks so much for visiting and I hope everything is well in your world!
Such a beautiful table! Love the bird on a wire plates, they are perfect for your table. The orange candles give the table a nice pop. Happy Mother’s Day.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Judy! I like those bird on a wire plates too and probably don’t use them often enough. I love your table as well – so pretty! Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a fantastic Mother’s Day!
Oh Kim, what a magical table you whipped up at the last minute! I do hope your mother will be able to attend, please tell her she shouldn’t be on a step ladder! Your mirrored wine glasses really are gorgeous, and the color palette you chose is beautiful and feminine…love the Bird on a Wire plates, so pretty! I love the bountiful blooms centerpiece and I like both candle colors, the white is elegant while the orange lends a more casual relaxed feel…I hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day!
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Jenna and I hope mom will be able to attend too! I agree that she shouldn’t be on a step ladder and in her words: “Well, at least the picture is hung”, which is what she was doing when it happened. I’m sending you wishes for a wonderful Mother’s Day as well!
Kim, I am so sorry about your mom’s fall. I so hope she heals quickly. I love your table set in her honor. All of the details are beautiful and I think I prefer the orange candles, however both look great.
Wishing you and your mom a very Happy Mother’s Day!
Thanks so much for your wishes for mom – I’m hoping she’s on the mend too! I wasn’t sure about the candles so I thought I’d try both but I agree, I think I prefer the orange too! Thanks for visiting and I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day as well!
Oh that’s lovely Kim! I know you might faint when I tell you that, instead of my usual white preference, I actually like the peachy/orange tapers best. But I think they add a nice pop, and look fabulous. I hope your mom gets better fast – sending lots of healing energy your way. And I hope you both have a wonderful Mother’s Day! Happy May, my friend!
Ha ha Barbara – you are right in that I thought you might prefer the white! I didn’t mind the orange tapers either for the reasons that you said. Plus, they didn’t match perfectly. Thanks for sending some healing energy for mom and I hope she gets better fast too! Sending Happy Mother’s Day wishes your way as well, and hope you have a wonderful day too my friend!
Beautiful table!! So fresh & pretty! So sorry to read about your Mom’s fall…I hope she heals quickly & enjoys her day! My Mom (and Dad) are both in heaven…but hubby & my girls make Mother’s Day special. I hope you have a beautiful day!!
Charlotte, thanks so much for your visit and your lovely comments. I hope mom heals quickly too! I popped over to your blog – you have been busy – and I’ll pop back again for a more thorough read. In the meantime, I’m so glad to hear that spring has made its appearance in lovely PEI, and I wish you a beautiful Mother’s Day as well! Take care!
