Good morning!!!
Today I am delighted to be joining 18 wonderful tablescaping ladies in a summer blog hop as they share their inspiration hosted by the fabulous Rita from Panoply. Thank you Rita! I’m not sure why, but it feels like it’s been awhile since we gathered together so I am very much looking forward to all the creativity these lovely ladies have to share and I hope you are too! The links to their tables can be found at the end of this post.
We have just sold our house here in Calgary and are in the (painful) process of moving to a new build that we purchased last fall. As we cull and pack and store, my tabletop stuff is now scattered between our garage, both youngest and middle sons’ basements, and a couple of storage units that we rented. Despite my best organizational efforts, I have lost track of exactly where everything is lol. Things are definitely chaotic around here at the moment and a new tablescape from scratch was just not in the cards. However, I had been thinking about a tropical tablescape for awhile now and actually did set one last year. We were pretty busy here though last summer too with 2 sons’ weddings, 3 sons’ and DILs all selling current houses and buying new houses, and moving my mom into supportive care, and the tablescape never made it to the blog. On the flip side, I had taken all the pictures and so all I needed to do was edit them and pull together the post. A heads up though, it will be short and sweet.
The tropical theme started with some palm plates from Pier 1. They’ve been in the cabinet for quite some time as I contemplated how to style them. I really liked the soft blue, green, and brown colors in them which is what drew me towards them in the first place. Both the dinner plate and salad plate are similar though not identical.
I wanted to accent the brown colors as well, so I placed them on some rattan chargers that I’ve had for years. I think I must have bought the napkin rings around the same time as the plates. The white napkins with pom pom edges are part of my go-to stash.
Bamboo flatware continues the tropical theme.
The stemware I chose was blue crackled glass wine glasses and rattan encased water glasses.
For the center of the table, I came across this tropical garland from Michaels that I thought would coordinate with the plates and it really was what brought the table together.
I thought that the rattan-wrapped candle holders gave the table sort of a tiki vibe. And while I don’t usually light candles in the summer, I like this table better when the candles are lit. The only challenge was trying to get the candles to line up on the garland and sit level. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good.
Resources:
Plates, napkin rings, chargers (used here) , and teal crackled wine glasses (used here): Old Pier 1
Bamboo flatware: Amazon
Garland: Michaels
Rattan wrapped glasses: Pottery Barn (I’m pretty sure)
Candle holders: Bouclair (A Canadian chain)
Thank you for visiting. Please check out all the other wonderful tablescapes below for a ton of summer inspiration! Happy summer everyone!
Kim, what a lovely table you’ve shared — in the midst of everything else! I’m also smitten by the palm design of the plates. I wouldn’t have expected blues but they bring more interest and vibrancy to the pattern than shades of green would have. Plus they allow you to accent both colors with the pretty crackled blue glassware and deep blue napkin rings on the one hand and a fabulous leaf garland with varying shades of green on the other. The rattan and bamboo textures (and colors) are a wonderful addition. When you complete your move, you should recreate this table in order to enjoy a well-deserved tropical rest! Have a wonderful summer!
Sandra, thanks so much for your lovely comments. I really like blue and green together too so I am really glad you enjoyed the table. I think when we are done moving, maybe I’ll just go on a tropical vacation lol. But you are right, I should reset it and then plan a tropical dinner – that would be fun too. It was really fun hopping with you and I hope you have a wonderful summer as well! Take care.
Well that is darling Kim, and aren’t you smart to find a quick workaround in the middle of all that moving! (I’ve moved about a dozen times and I know it’s exhusting – but exciting too! I hope you get more excitement and less exhaustion!) LOVE this table though! You’ve really brought it together with the garland and the rattan, and I love how your color scheme matches your porch decor too – a total immersive experience! It’s always so fun to share a hop with you my friend! Can’t wait to hear more about the move, and see more beautiful tables in your new place! Happy Almost Summer!
Ha Barbara – I’m already exhausted and it’s still 10 days until move in! So much packing. I should have done a better job at culling but there just didn’t seem to be enough time so we’ll see what joys await me on the other end lol. I smiled at your “total immersive experience” comment and now that you mention it, blue and green together is a favorite combination. It was great hopping with you too my friend and I hope you have a most wonderful summer!
Oh Kim! When we moved into our current home over 30 years ago I swore I would never move again! Last week we moved our youngest into her new home and I quickly remembered why I made that pledge!! I love your tropical table. Your plates are so pretty, and perfectly paired with the rattan placemats. I love the flatware too! Your greenery table runner highlighted with candles is such a great idea, and I always forgot to check out Bouclair for accessories! I have been on the look-out for glasses similar to yours. I will have to check and see if they are still available at Pottery Barn! Good luck on your move 🙂
Hi Maureen. I think that after this move I will also be saying that I’m never moving again!! Assuming that I live to tell about it lol. Thanks so much for your lovely comments and I frequently forget about Bouclair too – mostly because it’s location is not in an area that I find myself in very often. I think Pottery Barn is still carrying those rattan/wicker-wrapped glasses so you should be able to track them down. It was great hopping with you and I’m wishing you a wonderful summer!
Kim, I am glad you were able to edit the photos and give us this great tropical table for our hop!! It would be a shame if you hadn’t shared it. The plates and succulent napkin rings look fabulous with your tropical leaf garland. I love all the texture with all the rattan and the bamboo flatware. Such a pretty table!! I hope things calm down and you are able to enjoy your summer!!☀️😎
Thanks so much for your comments Ann! I’m glad that you liked the table and I’m really glad that I had it as a backup so I could join all you lovely ladies for the blog hop. We are very much looking forward to this move being done even though we won’t have a yard until next summer. I remember that you also had a move coming up and I hope that went well and you are settled now. Thanks for stopping by and it was great hopping with you. Happy summer!
Kim, I can’t imagine all that you are handling and yet you styled this gorgeous table. Bravo! I love the palm plates and all the details you added for this table. The placemats, the bamboo flatware, the beautiful napkin ring, and the rattan chargers and water glasses all come together to give your table a fabulous tropical feel. The large green leaves down the center are the perfect touch. Happy Summer!
Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for your lovely comments and your visit. I was so glad that I had this table from last summer to share and could join in the blog hop, although this summer is turning out to be just as crazy as last summer, if not worse. I’m glad that you like the table and it was a pleasure hopping with you. I’m wishing you a happy summer too!
Kim, I thought I knew exactly how you’re feeling right about now, except I didn’t have a wedding and kids moving too! Oh my, what a juggling act you’ve got going on. Let me just say the tropical tablescape lends that “Calgon, take me away” feeling! I love the calming effect of the blues and greens of this tableware, and those crackled stems are just gorgeous, especially in the candlelight. I don’t think there’s one of us table stylists who don’t miss Pier 1. They truly had such great inventory and great price points.
I hope things settle down for you soon, and I really appreciate the fact that you took time from your busy schedule to join the summer blog hop. I remember doing something similar to what you’ve done – having a table set before moving which allowed me to participate and still have some semblance of normalcy through the chaos.
Happy summer, and hang in there!
Oh my goodness Rita – it was exactly what you said. Some normalcy amidst all the chaos, although I must admit, it wasn’t planning on my part, just fluke that I’d set this table last summer and ran out of time to write the post. Thanks for your lovely comments and I miss Pier 1 dreadfully, too, especially since our furniture is wearing now and will need to be replaced. They always had great tabletop stuff, but also great furniture, pictures, and decor. They are sadly missed. I had forgotten about the Calgon commercials until you mentioned them – I would love it if someone took me away lol. Thanks for the encouragement too, and wishing you a very happy summer as well!!!
Kim, you have had a lot on your plate! I admire you so much for being able to take time and join our blog hop, and I am so glad you did. Your tropical tablescape is gorgeous! The different textures you have incorporated make such a lovely presentation. The addition of the candles is perfect, and your dinnerware is so pretty. Wishing you a happy summer! Take care of yourself!
Hi Shannon. I have to confess that it would take something extraordinary to make me miss a blog hop, and so I was very thankful that I had this previous table set and photographed, and was able to participate with all you wonderfully creative ladies! Thank you for your lovely comments on the table and I think when all this is over, a tropical vacation is definitely in order. I’m wishing you a wonderful summer as well!
Kim, Wow, busy times for you…your life has been hectic! Moving is not for the faint of heart and I’m embarrassed to admit it’s been 8 years since we last moved and we still have some large furniture pieces in storage. I know you’ll be happy when you’re settled. Kudos to you to have the energy to edit your photos and write your post! I love the tropical plates and runner. I so miss popping in Pier 1 to shop and find table inspiration. Love the pairing of the succulent napkin rings and blue crackled stemware. The rattan placemats, glass sleeves and bamboo flatware add a wonderful texture to your table. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Best of luck to you with you move, I hope you’re settled soon. Happy Summer ♥
Mary, my greatest fear will be what to do with all the stuff in storage and somehow it wouldn’t surprise that 2 years down the road we are still paying for it lol. Because the backyard is not fenced or leveled in the new house, anything that we had outside has gone/will go into storage. Plus whatever other stuff that we can figure out what to do with in the moment. So yes, I see the storage containers as a semi-long term relationship. Thanks for your lovely comments on the table and I still miss Pier 1 too!! It’s always a pleasure for me too be be in these blog hops with all the inspiration that there is to share. Thanks for the good move wishes and wishing you a very happy summer too!
I was so attracted to this tranquil tropical tablescape. I love the combination of lush tropical green foliage and the tranquil colors of blue and greens. The texture of rattan throughout the table is truly a reminder of grass huts over the lovely Carribean blue waters. It is such a peaceful tablescape. Now all I need is the feel of sand and a tropical coconut pineapple drink and I would certainly believe I am on a beautiful island. Happy Summer and best wishes in your move to your new residence.
Oh my goodness Marsha – oh for the sand and tropical drinks. I can’t manufacture any sand but I definitely could (and should have) added some tropical drinks – you know, those with the little umbrellas in them. Great suggestion and I love margaritas and pina coladas. Yum. Here’s to dreaming. Thanks so much for your comments and stopping by and for the best wishes on our move. Happy summer to you too!
Kim, such busy times for you. Congrats on the new house. Great minds think alike. I adore your tropical table with those pretty blue and green palm trees. The rattan chargers and cups holders are so perfect for the tropics. Your centerpiece is lovely too. I love the napkin rings as I have those too. I sure miss shopping in person at Pier1. I adore that color of teal in your goblets. A very fun table so perfect for summer. A pleasure hopping along with you.
Thanks for the congrats Linda, although I must admit that this undertaking has been a bit more work than anticipated. Or maybe we are just getting to old for this stuff lol. I am dreaming about a tropical vacation, maybe when we get through our move but it’s nice to have a little vibe to tide me over. I loved loved your table too. Thanks for stopping by and it was a pleasure hopping with you too. Happy summer!
Congratulations on your move, Kim, and especially on keeping it together for the Blog Hop in the midst of everything you have to do. Loved your tropical setting with its soothing colors and mix of textures. This table is timeless so it doesn’t;t matter when you put it together. I especially liked the tropical leaf table runner and the rattan place mats. They give such a tropical feel to the table.
Lynne
Thanks so much Lynne for your comments. I don’t usually have a spare tablescape waiting in the wings but I did this time. And I was very happy that I did so I could join all you lovely ladies. We are thousands of miles away from anything remotely tropical and its nice – even for a short time – to dream. Thanks for stopping by and it was great hopping with you. Happy summer!
Kim your table is lovely no matter when it was set or put together. Especially when you are moving. That is a big job in of itself. So thank you for still hopping with us. I love tropical and why wouldn’t I? I really do live in Paradise and it is always tropical here in SW Florida. Just ask me when all the tropical storms hit us…LOL I set a tropical tablescape today too using almost the same pieces. LOL Have a great Summer and be safe in all you do with moving. boxes can be heavy and our backs are not getting any younger. 🥰
Kari, oh my goodness! Of course you love tropical where you are in beautiful paradise. And I loved your table and your secret garden was just so inspirational. I will have a whole new back yard to landscape after we move and I am remembering your beautiful yard and hope that I can borrow some of your ideas (Canada appropriate, of course, lol). Yes, the moving. I’m very lucky in that I have 3 wonderful sons who are very helpful so hopefully I can get through this move without throwing my back out. I very much hope this is a quiet tropical seasonal for you and that you and the Captain take care down there. Happy summer to you and P.S., I’d love to see the front courtyard in your place!
The colors here are so soothing and this table is so inviting! I love the greenery and candles and I would enjoy sitting here for a summer meal! Happy Summer!
Thanks so much Patti! I would have loved to have set this table out in our gazebo and I think that is part of the reason that I did not get around posting it last summer. Well, that and several other happenings at the time lol. If I were to set it again that’s where I would set it and you are definitely most welcome to join us for a summer meal should you even be this way. Thanks for your comments and happy summer to you!
My goodness! Your table is so cute!!! I love the colors and tropicals and succulents on your table. I have been drawn to greens and blues lately. The table runner is brilliant, and I love the napkin rings! 😀 I also like the glasses. Your table also reminds me of the 1950s. So cute!
Oh my goodness Ricki Jill. I smiled at your comment about the 1950’s. Is that when tiki/tropical was the thing? I suspect so but no matter – just glad that it gave you the vibes. Thanks so much for commenting and stopping by. It was a pleasure hopping with you and all these lovely ladies. Happy Summer to you with hopefully not serious tropical storms that come your way!!
Kim, with all that is on your plate and the upcoming move, I am super impressed that you could join us! I love your tropical theme that was inspired by the palm plates, I also like the soft blue, green, and brown colors. The rattan chargers were a perfect choice for a tropical feel. The napkin rings are fabulous as is the bamboo flatware. Rattan encased water glasses and blue crackled wine glasses add more charm to the table. Tropical garland is the icing on the cake!
It is always a pleasure to hop with you, sweet friend. Take care of yourself with all that you have going on!
Pam, I am so looking forward to this move being done (and I would be a liar if I said it wasn’t stressful) and having the new place organized. I’m so glad I had this table from last summer and was able to join in on the blog hop – I do love setting tables lol. I’m actually thinking about a tropical holiday somewhere when we are finished moving, but even better, I will be retiring soon. Thank you for you comments and it’s always a pleasure to hop with you too! Take good care yourself sweet friend!
Hi Kim! Wow, it sounds like you are super busy with your move, I hope it’s all behind you sooner than later! I’m so glad you were able to join in today and I love love this tropical table! The rattan mats are perfect with your pretty plates as is the bamboo flatware and rattan drink holders. LOVE the napkin rings, they are so perfect with your plates and the runner of palm leaves. The teal stemware is beautiful! As always, I love it all! Wonderful summer tropical table!
Hi Jenna! Yes, things are pretty crazy around here at the moment, but this too, shall pass lol. Thank you for your lovely comments and I was so delighted to be able to join you ladies today. I haven’t been on a vacation anywhere tropical in the last couple of years so it was really nice to get some tropical vibes until I’m able to get away. Take care down there sweet friend and I hope you and your family enjoy all the upcoming celebrations!
Such a pretty table…absolutely love it!! We never had a Pier 1 here – but used to visit it every time we shopped on the mainland – I truly miss it! How exciting-moving to a new build!! A lot of work though….but I hope you share photos of your new home…once you are in and settled! Have an awesome day, my friend!!
Thanks so much Charlotte for your lovely comments. I really missed Pier 1 too and even though I don’t need anymore table top stuff, they always had great home furnishings too and I’m really missing them now with the move to the new house and the fact that some of our furniture needs to be replaced. I promise to share some photos of the new home – it is very different from our current home, for sure. I hope you are having an awesome day yourself my friend, and I hope your pool is getting ready to welcome summer!
Kim, your tropical table setting is so fun and I really love your attention to details! The pretty bamboo flatware, rattan chargers and glasses, and napkin rings really create a charmingly cohesive table–pinned! Blessings, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Cecilia, thank you for your comments and stopping by. I’m really glad you like the table and it is always so much fun hopping with all you lovely ladies. I loved your fairy flower garden table too – so adorable. Stay cool down there and happy (if not hot) summer to you!
