Home and garden, tablescaping, organization, DIY

Good morning!

I hope everyone is well out there in blogland.  Today, I am sharing a Mother’s day tablescape – yes, I’m running a bit behind as per usual.  The end of April/beginning of May always seems to be a busy time of year.  Income tax for one, but more importantly, getting the outside ready for the upcoming season.  Spring cleaning, window washing, and general yard clean-up are all important, yet, time-consuming chores on the agenda.

But, Mother’s day is looming and I do like to set a tablescape in honor of the day for her.  My mom turned 93 in January.  She’s pretty amazing; she’s completely independent and walks everyday – even on days I won’t go for a walk!  She is well known for re-arranging her furniture inside her condo and out on the patio just for fun.  I should mention that she is about 90 pounds soaking wet.  If that.

The tablescape started with this butterfly topper from old Pier 1 that I’ve had for quite some time.

It was hard to capture the pretty, sparkly beading.

I wanted to keep the centerpiece simple and try not to cover up the butterflies.  So, it was a vase of flowers and two candles on either side.  A traditional centerpiece that generally works well.

The flowers are ivory dahlias and chrysanthemums.  The bee vase was originally filled with real flowers and was a mother’s day gift from middle son and then girlfriend, now fiancée (but very soon-to-be DIL and I’m pretty excited about that) a few years ago.  Youngest son is also engaged so I’ll have another DIL to welcome too!!

A butterfly has landed on the flowers…

I kept the plate stack simple as well.

The pattern on the glass salad plates and chargers reminds me of lace.

I searched for quite a while hoping to find wine glasses in this shade of turquoise to no avail.  This stemware is acrylic but works just fine.

The dragonfly napkin rings were another item from Pier 1 many years ago.  The ivory eyelet napkins are new this year from Pottery Barn.  But just a heads up, they only have the eyelet detail on one edge of the napkin; the other three edges are plain hemmed.

A few more pictures…

Wishing all the beautiful moms out there a very happy Mother’s Day!

  1. Very pretty. I particularly like those turquoise salad plates and tumblers. And congrats to your sons for finding their special someones and to you for having two soon-to-be daughters-in-law.

    1. Thanks for your comments JJ and for stopping by. Its always so lovely to hear from you and I hope all is well. The two sons have shared a house together for many years and its been really interesting to see them moving ahead with the next stages of their lives. Thanks for your congrats and I’m pretty pumped about both DILs.

  2. Sometimes I wish us tablescapers lived next door to each other, so that we could share our supplies! Your tablescape has inspired me to create a butterfly table…..
Well done and happy mothers day to you!

    1. Hi Nicki. Thanks so much for your visit and comments. I agree that it would be fantastic to share supplies – how fun to see how someone else might style your plates or stemware or flatware. It’s too bad that we live so far apart lol. Take care over there and happy mother’s day to you as well!

  3. This is beautiful! The color is so calming and the style is delicate. I am sure your mom will appreciate this.

    1. Darlene, thank you for your comment and for visiting! I have this sense that you are a former tablescaper?? I couldn’t find a blog in your name though. If you have one, would you mind sharing? Thank you so much and wishing you and all the lovely ladies in your life a very happy mother’s day!

  4. I think that is the most beautiful table scape I’ve ever seen… the plates remind me of sea glass…. The table runner is so lovely

    1. Veryl, thank you so much for your lovely comments! I hadn’t really thought of sea glass, but yes, you are right in that they are very much the color of sea glass. Thanks for visiting and I hope you will stop by again. Take care!

  5. SUCH a beautiful table Kim – and a perfect tribute to your mom! How wonderful that she’s doing so well. I’m going to take a few leaves out of her book so I can be that great at 93 too! 🙂 I love the colors you chose, and the simple elegance of the design. I know you’ll have a fabulous celebration at that table! (And congrats on two upcoming DILs!) Thanks for sharing, and as always, for your wonderful inspiration!

    1. Hi Barbara. Thanks so much for your comments and visit – I’m going to take a few leaves out of her book too (she’s an avid reader lol) Yes, the new DIL’s…Middle son and M have been together for more than six years while younger son and N have been together for about two years. But lots of fun, yes! I hope you are doing well and enjoying spring. I’m so looking forward to the table competition and hope that’s going well for you?!! Take care down there my friend!

  6. Hello Kim. I love your pretty Mother’s Day table. Your mom sounds amazing. How wonderful that she is so independent and healthy at 93. The beaded butterfly runner is beautiful and your centerpiece is perfect. The plate stack is lovely and so are the napkins. Wishing you and your mom a very Happy Mother’s Day!

    1. Oh my gosh Pam! If I live to 93 and am that healthy – wow! She will sometimes walk to Walmart which is in the next subdivision and has to be a good 7-8 kilometers round trip (she gave up driving last fall). Its become her favorite store. She’s kind of like your dad who is pretty amazing too. Thank you for your comments and your visit lovely lady, and wishing you a blessed Mother’s day as well!

  7. Oh Kim….what a beautiful tablescape! And in my favourite colour as well! Wow…you are blessed to have your Mom still with you…and so active! My Mom sadly passed away in 1984…I still miss her as much today as I did then. Congratulations on gaining a DIL…that is so exciting! Wonderful news all around. Keeping an eye on the fires out there…so scary. After Hurricane Fiona…I feel our poor little Island is a fire disaster waiting to happen…still so many trees and brush laying about.
    Have a beautiful & blessed Mother’s Day!!

    1. Charlotte, thank you so much for your lovely comments and visit. Yes, I definitely feel very blessed. I think the fire season started early this year – a couple of days ago, they had to evacuate a whole town in Alberta – including the hospital and long term care – because there was one that was out of control. And the farmer’s almanac is predicting a hot and dry summer out here. And we don’t even have all the extra “tinder” that you do on the island. Yikes! I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you. Happy Mother’s Day to you as well, my friend!

  8. hi Kim! Your mother’s day table is beautiful and just happens to be my very favorite color! 1. Hi Jenna! Yes, spring is finally here in Calgary – yippee! I popped over to your blog to see how you styled the napkin rings – very pretty table with blue skies and yellow roses. (I’ll pop back again to catch up). I am so grateful for mom’s good health and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t give thanks. Thank you for stopping by and your lovely comments. Happy second week of May to you and have a very happy Mother’s Day as well!
