Home and garden, tablescaping, organization, DIY

Good morning!

I’ve been remiss in my duties as a blogger lately.  I’ve not been keeping track of, or commenting on, other’s beautiful posts, nor have I posted anything myself recently.  In particular, I have not posted a Thanksgiving tablescape, despite the fact that Canadian Thanksgiving was more than a month ago.

We had a lovely September here in Calgary with temperatures above average, but then in October, we sat under an artic mass for nearly three weeks, with temps 10 to 20 degrees below normal.  What should have been sweater weather turned into parkas and mitts weather.  Amidst the hunkering down under the artic chill, it seemed like once Thanksgiving had passed, the rest of October just slipped away.  I don’t know where it went.  Then, at the beginning of November, we broke our previous record high, with temps above normal for nearly a week after that.  Now, into the second week of November, we are back again in the cold and snow, with temps way below normal.  Does anyone else have crazy autumn weather like this?

In any event, here was the impetus for the Thanksgiving tablescape.  Somehow, pumpkin plates in pretty fall colors didn’t seem quite fitting…

Instead, some glimmer and gleam to offset the dreariness outside was called for.  And often when that is the case, out come the mirrored charger plates.

On top of the mirrored chargers went some ivory basket weave square dinner plates.

To the dinner plates I added a silver acorn salad dish, and an ivory napkin with beaded edging and a silver leaf napkin ring.  An ivory tablecloth with silver edging provided the backdrop.

The flatware says Stokes on it which is where I bought it many years ago.  I assume it was made exclusively for them.  I love the beaded detail on the napkins; they also have a little silver metallic thread woven into the fabric which is not well captured with my camera.

For the stemware, I used my Waterford crystal wine glasses as water glasses, and these etched wine glasses for wine.  I’ve been wanting some etched wind glasses for a while now but have shied away from the prices and lack of storage, so I was pleased to find these ones on clearance at Williams Sonoma.  Funny how storage considerations go out the window when the price is right lol.

For the centerpiece, I started with a silver and ivory beaded table topper.  I added some mercury and glass candle holders with ivory led candles, followed by some glass pumpkins.  And that was it.  Oh, and some pinecone table scatter for fun.

The table actually came together relatively quickly after I’d ironed the tablecloth and napkins, polished the chargers, washed the stemware, and located some errant napkin rings.  Haha.  Here is the full table.

Our dining room is at the back of the house, and the windows face north and east so its fairly dark at this time of year.  I was glad to capture this sliver of sunlight coming through the front windows.

With the candles lit:

This table style is one that would easily transition into the holiday season and beyond.  Simply switch out the pumpkins for some silver/ivory trees and/or reindeer, and change the salad plates if you can.  I don’t have any silver or ivory square salad plates, so I would probably opt for an oversized DIY silver poinsettia napkin ring placed in the middle of the plate.  And that’s a wrap.

Happy upcoming Thanksgiving to all south of the border!!   Thanks for visiting and your comments are most welcome and much appreciated.

  1. Thanks so much Barbara! I guess I’ll have to save the pretty pumpkin plates until next year. As for the erratic weather, what would Calgarians have to complain about if not for the weather – its a favorite topic of conversation lol? Hope yours is decent and that all is well with you. Happy Tuesday!
