Home and garden, tablescaping, organization, DIY

Good morning!

I hope everyone is doing well out there and things are slowly returning to normal – whatever that looks like!  Today I am sharing my Easter tablescape.  But first I have to let you know that I am obsessed with bunnies.  And this year more than usual because there are some domestic bunnies outside the hospital where I work. I don’t know where they came from but they’ve been there since last year and its amazing that they have survived the winter.  January was awful here.  February was a little milder than usual but then we got a big dump of snow towards the end.  And then March came in like the proverbial lion with frigid temperatures.  In any event, its been really hard for these sweet bunnies to find food, so the spiritual care provider at the hospital and I have been feeding them lettuce and carrots every day.  There are currently three of them – they are all brown bunnies; one is a very tawny shade, one is darker brown and a bit more scruffy, and the third is a medium brown with darker colored ears, and I have named them so accordingly:  Tawny, Scruffy, and Dark Ears, respectively  They are all so incredibly sweet.

Here is Tawny.  I couldn’t find either Scruffy or Dark Ears the day I took this picture, but there is a new kid in town and he is tawny with gray ears (the one in the background that you can’t see very well), now dubbed Gray Ears.  Gray Ears was definitely more skittish than Tawny and didn’t really want me getting too close, although s/he was grateful for the carrot and lettuce.  Thankfully, most of the snow from our end of February dump has melted.

I had initially envisioned an elegant Easter tablescape in silver, white, and gray.  But then the bunnies happened and when I came across these brown bunny plates in HomeSense, I just melted.  They reminded me of the hospital bunnies so I’ve dedicated this table to them.  There were two different salad plates and a dinner plate.

Here is Mrs. Bunny all dressed up in her Easter finery.  She looks almost identical to Scruffy.

Mr. Bunny appears much more reticent and unwilling to call attention to himself.  But who knows – maybe he is sporting a jaunty bow tie hidden by his chin?  He most resembles Gray Ears.

This is the dinner plate featuring Tawny and Gray Ears.

I also loved the other colors in the plates – the soft pinks, yellows, and oranges.  I wouldn’t call them pastels, but more muted colors instead.  I wanted to play up these colors in the centerpiece – and I was able to find some flowers in this yellow/gold shade at Michaels.  No pale oranges though.  The pink flowers were from my stash.

My “garden” centerpiece started with a simple wooden tray.  First I laid some folded spring leaf garlands from the dollar store on the bottom – I wanted to be able to pull out some tendrils to soften the edges of the tray.

(I never seem to remember to take pictures as I’m assembling the table, but here is one of the folded garlands (I used two) from when I was dismantling the table.)

Back to the table.  Next I added some distressed bunnies, followed by some deconstructed flowers, their leaves, and some butterflies to fill in the any bare spaces.

Then I added this fabric bunch of carrots to the middle; the centerpiece bunnies are marveling at their good fortune over the carrots, but are a bit puzzled by the texture and the color…

My dining room table is long, even though it only seats six people.  The length often presents some challenges in filling the space in the center.  So I added some decorative items to each end of the tray.

I’ve set the table for brunch with iridescent bunny hobnail water/juice glasses, and stemless crackled mimosa glasses for the ladies.

My guys don’t care so much for mimosas and prefer beer or Caesars.  So I set matching hobnail tumblers for them.  They’ll just have to deal with the embossed bunnies lol.

A few last looks at the table.

I’m super “eggcited” about Easter this year – especially since we’ve missed the last two Easters because of social gathering restrictions.  We can now finally gather and celebrate!  Wishing everyone a beautiful and blessed Easter and I hope you are able to spend it with your loved ones!

Where it all came from:

HomeSense:  Dishware (made by Grace), hobnail glassware, pink ruffled napkins, flatware (Empress from International, used here), table runner (used here)

Old Pier 1: Wooden carved chargers, crackled stemless glasses, napkin rings (used here), all several to many years ago

Michaels: Yellow flowers, carved eggs, egg hunt sign, and mini daffodils in pots, all this year

Williams Sonoma: Alabaster eggs several years ago but still available

Distressed bunnies:  I’ve had these for a while and I’m thinking they probably came from HomeSense???

  1. We had a fluffy bunny come and visit us for 6-months. It was winter, so I left greens out for him to munch on. Your table with the beautiful centerpiece and those darling plates is so lovely for spring.

Thanks for sharing at the Friday with Friends link party.

  2. Super Spring /Easter table, Kim! Those plates are so adorable, and your centerpiece is a perfect complement to it all. I chuckled at the “…marveling at their good fortune over the carrots, but are a bit puzzled by the texture and the color…”, and also the guys having to deal with tumblers with bunnies for their beer. Love that crackled glassware Pier 1 carried, and wish I had gotten more of it for my own collection.
You’re a good samaritan to the bunnies at the hospital! Just like snow, I like seeing it/them…in someone else’s property! Happy April!

    1. Haha Rita. I laughed at your comment about bunnies and snow being on someone else’s property! We don’t have bunnies in our yard here, but snow is another matter entirely. If only I could wish it away to someone else’s property, or town/city, or province/state, or preferably, someone else’s country far far away lol. Thanks so much for your comments and for stopping by. Happy April to you too!
