Spring is officially here!  Yay!  And while I fully expect that Ole Man Winter still has a few tricks up his sleeve for us, Mother Nature has been almost benevolent lately, gracing us with some sunny skies and warmer temperatures.  The snow is finally starting to melt – how great is that?  With Easter just around the corner, it seemed time to set an Easter tablescape.

But first, I thought I would share this with you – it came across Facebook a couple of weeks ago.  It gave me a chuckle and I hope it will you too.  Chuckles are good these days….

I’m not quite sure what prompted this particular tablescape – it was probably a collection of things, including the carrot picks I found at HomeSense earlier this year.  I had no clear idea what I would do with them at the time, but into the cart they jumped.

I’ve had the Maxcera green toile bunny plates for close to 15 years, I would estimate.  I haven’t used them in the last several years because I only have six plates, and our family has grown past that number.  I came across some on Replacements a couple of years ago, but they were priced at $25.99 per plate then.  That would be $US, plus exchange, plus shipping, plus duty.  Yikes.  Earlier this year though, I stumbled across some of these plates in HomeSense, and two extra plates came home with me.  Interestingly, they are bigger than the plates that I have, but otherwise, are the same, and wouldn’t really be noticeable in a table setting.  I’ve noticed that many tableware items are bigger now than they were before.

In any event, I didn’t need the extra plates for this table.  In fact, I didn’t need even the six plates that I already had because I often like to change the place setting for the head and foot of the table.

I’ve set the table with four Maxcera plates, and the two end places with some cute bunny plates I found at Michaels.

The toile bunny plates are a very soft moss green on an ivory background.  But it was really hard to capture the true green color, no matter what time of day I photographed it.  I don’t know why.  I even took the plate outside on the deck at one point, wondering if that would help.  It didn’t, as you can see below.

Here is the plate without the napkin, and the photograph taken with the camera.  Not really any better…  So be it.

The bunny plates at the head and foot of the table are a little less patterned than the toile plates.  I love the sweet expression on her face.

The napkin ring is actually a basket of carrots.  Its better seen in this photo.

The toile place settings have a carrot napkin and a flower napkin ring.

I think that the centerpiece was the real challenge for me, and I wondered how I would incorporate the carrot picks.  The carrot picks were artificial, so that dictated silk flowers, although as I write this, I see no reason why you couldn’t use real flowers and real carrots.  Food for thought, no pun intended.  But the centerpiece actually turned out to be quite simple.  I already had the ivory tulips, the greenery, and the butterfly pick.  All I needed was a few more flowers, and I was able to source some daisies from the dollar store.  What is more spring than daisies, tulips, and butterflies?  Unless its daffodils, of course.

The bunny vase is a new acquisition this year to add to my small WS/PB bunny accessories collection.  It sits on a beaded carrot table runner with several different patterned carrots.  The vase is flanked on each side by momma bunnies looking over smaller bunnies that just happen to be salt and pepper shakers…

Is it even possible for bunnies not to be sweet?

This trio sits on a small toile tray, also found this year (the tray).  Momma bunny is carefully guarding her carrot.

The bunny on this tray is slightly different than the salad plates; I think he would match the dinner plates that go with this collection.

The bunny plates sit on top of ivory dinner plates, which are, in turn, on top of green distressed chargers.  The bronze twig flatware with its orange undertone seemed in keeping with the theme.

The stemware was green wine glasses for the toile plates and bunny wine glasses for the two other place settings.  I have been using my Waterford crystal wine glasses from my wedding registry many, many years ago as water glasses, when I remember.  I don’t know the pattern.  They are so small compared to wine glasses now.  We really have supersized…

Happy Easter everyone, and prayers for all those impacted by the COVID-19 virus.

  1. This is lovely. I have 5 of the Green Toile Bunny Plates I found at a store here in the USA – Home Goods. I have looked and looked but cannot find one more, except at exorbitant prices. So, like you, I have 2 different plates at the head/foot of the table. Love your setting! (It came up when I searched for the plates!)

    1. Hi Marian! I found the green toile plates a very long time ago at HomeSense here, which is the Canadian version of Home Goods. Like you, I remember trying to find a few more salad plates to add to my collection but the prices were beyond crazy until I stumbled on the newer version at HomeSense many years later. I do see them on eBay from time to time but the prices vary and I think it depends partly upon the time of year that the seller is selling. I find that when I am looking for something specific and/or rare on eBay, I have to check almost everyday which is kind of a pain and feels almost like stalking lol… I wish you the best of luck if you decide to pursue your 6th plate and thank you so much for stopping by. I love to hear about others’ experiences in tracking down dishes. Take care.

  2. Generally I don’t read post on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do it! Your writing style has been surprised me. Thanks, quite nice article.

    1. Hola Claudia.

    1. Thank you so much Renette, and I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Are you a blogger/tablescaper? I hope that you are staying safe in these crazy times! Take care.

  3. This is so cute! This particular tablescape screams brunch to me! Eggs bennys, yumm.

    1. Thanks Danielle! Brunch it is. We’ll just switch out the wine glasses for mimosa glasses – some Prosecco with your favorite accompaniment along with fresh berries to top. And eggs Bennie – I agree – yumm! I’ll have to find a good Hollandaise sauce recipe, but a minor detail. Food and mimosas shall prevail. I’m not sure what Easter will look like this year, but wishing you, Bow, and Daniel the best!

  4. Oh, my goodness! I really, really love your table. Green and orange, what an interesting combination. I have been eyeing that bunny vase for a couple of months now. Hmm… I may just have to pick it up on sale. I’ve seen those toile bunny plates at HomeGoods, but I only usually see one or two, and I’m reluctant to start another incomplete collection. They are beautiful! Enjoy your Easter and be safe!

    1. Thanks Maria. I agree that green and orange isn’t typically a color combination that springs to mind for a tablescape. Glad you liked it! I popped over to your site for a quick visit and loved your St Patrick’s Day table. I hope the shamrock napkins enjoy their new home – they are so cute. I loved the individual butter dishes and I must try some Kerrygold butter – it sound delicious. Thanks for visiting and a happy and safe Easter to you too!
