I hope everyone had a fantastic summer! Here in Calgary, our summers are hot, dry, and dusty. And short. It seems like summer is over in the blink of an eye and I’m always kind of sad to see it go even as I grow weary of weeding and watering in the back yard. Fall is already offering subtle hints of its presence, mostly seen in our overnight lows that are venturing into the low teens/high single digits in the last week or so. It’s sweater weather y’all, at least in the mornings! And if that’s not exciting enough, today you are in for a treat as I’m delighted to be joining 13 other talented ladies in sharing our fall tabletop inspiration in a blog hop hosted by Rita from Panoply with some much appreciated assistance from Mary at Home is Where the Boat Is. The inspiration for this table started with these pomegranate napkins found on a fall clearance from Williams Sonoma several years ago. I don’t know what it is about clearance items from WS that so compels me to buy, but they’ve been waiting awhile as I tried to figure out how to best style them. It was the red and green color combination that gave me pause – they were a fall item but the colors kind of suggest Christmas. But I’m always up for a challenge and so today I’m sharing my non-Christmassy red, green, and white tablescape. The napkins and place settings seemed like a good place to start…

The plates are from Pier 1’s Harvest Wheat collection, many years ago now. I tend to use them a lot in fall; the wheat stalk is an iconic fall symbol for someone like me who lives in a city surrounded by farmland. The salad plate and dinner plate with the embossed wheat stalks are very similar.

The charger plate is Turkish Akcam glass – it looks quite bright in this photo but it really is a lovely cranberry color (or a pomegranate color, if you prefer) in person.

I chose these ombre cranberry glasses for wine with a Glen Plaid water glass, both from my stash. The Glen Plaid tumbler is a Ralph Lauren knock-off, I think, but I really like it and I should use it more often.

I’ve titled the tablescape as transitional and so it should have elements of both summer and fall. The center of the table started with a soft summer green ticking-stripe table runner on which a raised sweater-clad pumpkin is surrounded by flowers. As we savour late summer’s offerings of sunflowers, hydrangeas, dahlias, and wisteria,

and white fur and burgundy boucle pumpkins tumble out onto a bed of muted green eucalyptus leaves, reminding us that very soon it will be their season to shine.

An overhead view of the centerpiece: I don’t think the table looks Christmassy at all, although you could easily make it so.

Kim, this is a beautiful tribute to fall. I know your summer season is short, but I envy that. It’s still in the upper 90s here. At least I’m hopeful we have broken out of the triple digits and are slowing moving into cooler days and nights. Having just returned from CO, I’m missing the mountain air! Love the Turkish chargers and those Williams Sonoma pomegranate linen napkins. They certainly set the stage for a beautiful table to welcome autumn. Thanks for sharing all this beauty.

Kim, this is a lovely way to transition into the autumn season. The napkins definitely are a beautiful inspiration to build the table around. The wheat-patterned plates and the various pumpkins are pulling towards the fall side, while the pretty shades of green are holding onto summer. I love the depth that the mix of textures brings to the table setting. Pomegranates are underused decor pieces. Your weather sounds like what we might experience come December — we’re currently sweltering in the mid-nineties with high humidity. Hope you have a wonderful autumn season!

It was funny that when I was creating the table and I walked into the dollar store, there were these textured mini pumpkins, right front and center of the store. I didn’t hesitate and the white fur pumpkins, in particular, are speaking to the season that follows fall (yes, that one), and snow can arrive here with very little warning. I’m really glad you enjoyed the table and I’m hoping that some cooler temps come your way soon. On the plus side, December will be here before you know it and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Christmas stuff popping up on the shelves soon. Pomegranates are one of my favorite fruits and I love to see them featured in a table setting. The reds you have chosen really reflect those glorious jewels of fruit found inside the pomegranate. Set against a background of white they really pop on the table. I have a friend who grows pomegranates and their bus is loaded right now. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely Fall.

Lynne, thank you for your lovely comments. I agree that their color really does pop against white. How wonderful to have a friend who grows pomegranates – if the truck is full then they must be harvested and ready to hit the stores. They haven’t here yet though, but I will be waiting for those glorious jewels of fruit, as you say. Wishing you a lovely fall as well and my it be filled with pomegranates!
Kim, you did a fabulous table using these napkins as inspiration, without the red and green looking like Christmas. I like pomegranates; they are underrated!! I can see why you picked up these napkins. Those charger plates are wonderful. Your table has a nice mix of pumpkins with different textures, perfect to bring in that fall feel. Ann, thank you so much. I agree that pomegranates are underrated – they are such a pretty color – and the napkins just hopped into the basket without a second thought. Only when it came time to style them did they give me pause. But it all turned out okay and the table was fun to put together. I’m glad you liked it. Kim, this is gorgeous! I found some pomegranates at an estate sale in ceramic that I really like and have used for a fall table a few years ago. I think this just looks really, really inviting. Love those Williams Sonoma napkins. That wheat pattern was used by Ann, I think it was, in her fall table also. Such a nice staple. Your centerpiece looks lovely especially in the overhead photograph. I like all the textures that you’re using. Hey, those Glen Plaid knockoffs are nice! Thanks so much Rita. I’m betting your ceramic pomegranates are just lovely (and vintage too, I’m guessing). And yes, the wheat plates are a nice staple, to the point where I probably overuse them. But if you like it then use it, as Barbara would say. I’m pretty sure it was a couple of years ago that I found the Glen Plaid knock-offs in HomeSense, but our HomeSense is the just Canadian version of your HomeGoods, with both owned by TJX. But it’s a good place to start, or alternatively, eBay, if you’re looking for the real thing. Thanks for your lovely comments Linda, especially about the overhead shot. Our “chandy” in the kitchen is much higher than the one in our dining room so it is much easier to get a better shot. The pomegranates are not quite in season here yet though I wouldn’t be surprised if they are where you are. But soon they will be, and I’ll be watching for them. I love your red and green table. Pomegranates are perfect for fall since that’s when they’re in season. The napkins are so pretty, and I like the wheat white plates, too. The nod to sweater weather with the runner and pumpkins is too, too cute. The red stemware and chargers pull everything together nicely. Red is one of my favorite colors, so of course I love your table! Happy fall!
Thanks Ricki Jill. I have to say that I was happy to find those napkins on clearance and it’s not often that they carry stock in the store. It’s almost all online with added shipping. I like red too (after all, it makes pink, right?) and I was glad that the table didn’t turn out Christmassy. Kim, I can see why the pomegranate napkins were your inspiration! Gorgeous! They certainly are the highlight of your pretty place settings! I really love how you mixed the pumpkins with the late-summer flowers in the centrepiece. The texture of the pumpkins bring a little bit of autumn coziness to the table 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comments Maureen. Coziness is good now as we’ve had rain here for many days straight – and when it rains the temperature always drops. I even had socks on yesterday, yikes. I heard there were some nasty storms through Ontario and I hope they didn’t cause any damage where you are, especially after your previous flooding. What a unique setting – the colors are so pretty for fall and the napkins and centerpiece are the stars of the show! I have always enjoyed eating off white plates and these have such a pretty trim! Happy fall!

I just adore those pomegranate napkins and they coordinate with your place settings perfectly! You sweater wrapped pumpkin and fuzzy little pumpkins are just right nestled among the blooms!

Kim I do not think your table looks like Christmas. I love it, even tho I don’t believe I have ever seen a white sunflower altho it would certainly be interesting…and pretty. 🤗 I love the overhead view, very chic. Your use of the lovely pomegranate napkin is so versatile and just plain beautiful. I have a thing for pomegranates and have a large bowl of them on my coffee table…they are faux of course, but so realistic looking. I must have missed the napkins at WS. Currently, I do have some plaid ones coming, tho they are back ordered and have been for several months. I hate when that happens because I have the tablecloth and intended to use both on my Fall table. Oh well, it is what it is.🥰 I love the pumpkin centerpiece as it goes so well with your wheat plates. (I am a Kansas wheat girl you know, transplanted to Florida) LOL …It is always such fun to see your tables from way up North.
Kari, I know that faux fruit these days are so realistic looking – certainly compared to the plasticky look I remember as a kid when everyone had faux fruit on the table. Same thing goes for faux flowers; I don’t know of white sunflowers either, but I get a lot of my flowers my Michaels and they often take some artistic license with them, as they did here lol. Yes, you are a wheat girl too! I hope you get your plaid napkins soon – I had a quick look online (try not to look too much or I get into trouble lol). Hi Kim! The pomegranate napkins are gorgeous and perfect for fall or Christmas. That is a double win! The Pier 1 wheat stalk plates represent autumn so well. The pomegranate charger plates are quite lovely and work beautifully with the wine glasses. The white sweater clad pumpkin is charming surrounded by flowers and pomegranates. How darling are the white fur and burgundy boule pumpkins resting on a bed of eucalyptus. Your overhead shot is stunning showing off the centerpiece, plate stacks, and those beautiful napkins.
