Good morning!
I hope everyone had a wonderful September with hopefully some more moderate temps for many. I really don’t know anyone who doesn’t like the month of September with cooler days and cozier nights combined with the changing colors of the leaves on the trees. Today, as we move into October, you are in for a treat because I am joining 11 other wonderfully talented ladies for a Halloween tablescape blog hop hosted by the lovely Rita from Panoply. Thank you so much Rita for gathering us all together! The links to all my fellow bloggers’ tables can be found at the bottom of this post and you will not want to miss a single one of them!

I think most people’s tables start with some sort of inspiration – certainly mine do. But for this table, there is a little back story first. For any new readers here, my husband and I moved into a new build a little over two years ago. It was a move to end all moves, and in the process, one of my favorite Halloween dishware patterns – 222 Fifth’s Wiccan Lace – went missing. I had initially hoped that they might be somewhere in the garage (where all things without a home landed), but unfortunately, they were not. I know this because last September, I rented a driveway storage box for a month as the garage was so full there was no room to organize anything. I moved stuff out of the garage into the box so I could sort, cull, and inventory. I should have taken a picture when it was full lol. In my inventorying, I also discovered four other sets of dishes that were missing, and it baffles me to this day where they all could have gone. In any event, I have spent the last year replacing what I could, including the Wiccan Lace dinner plates. All of this is a long-winded explanation as to why the inspiration for this table was the Wiccan Lace plates since I’ve essentially paid for them twice now💲💲.

.
.
Here is said dinner plate. I love the scalloped edges and the intricate pattern around the border of graveyards, spiders, cobwebs, bats, skulls, haunted mansions, black cats, and owls. Could anything be more Halloweeny? I’ve set the dinner plates on black sparkly chargers.

It was a table runner found in HomeSense that decided in which direction to take the table. It had a haunted mansion at either end and witches on broomsticks flying in the middle with a full moon, of course.
.
.

.
.
The witches, bats, and parts of the mansion are embroidered giving a nice texture, though you probably can’t make it out from the photographs. Halloween tables should be pretty too, right?
.
.

.
.
The salad plates that are part of the Wiccan Lace set have four different patterns. But to coordinate with the table runner, I chose only the mansion and the witch.

Simple black hammered flatware accompanied the dishes…

while black and white striped napkins were encased by black beaded spider napkin rings. Somehow, a secondary spider theme always seems to emerge on my Halloween tables.

I’ve been looking for black wine glasses for several years just to add to my collection. I didn’t have any luck with them at HomeSense this year either, but I did come across these beautiful embossed spider wine glasses – who wouldn’t want to sip wine from these? Crystal tumblers serve as water glasses.

When I was thinking about a centerpiece, I stumbled upon a DIY video of a witch’s hat on Youtube where the woman had used a grapevine cone and some sort of grapevine base. She spray painted them black, added some fairy lights on the inside, and then decorated the rim with Halloween-themed faux flowers. I wanted to try the same thing. I was able to find grapevine cones on Amazon, but the base proved elusive no matter what search term I used. As I was trying to decide what to do, I happened to be in Winners one day and came across this black grapevine witch hat with the lights already attached. Hmm. I love DIY when you can, but this was just such a great solution when I couldn’t.
Decorating it was so much fun. I added some different kinds of ribbon, with Dollartree providing Halloween bunches filled with Anthurium flowers, roses, and purple spiders…

And eyeballs and a bat for good measure. Everyone at the table has a view of the centerpiece.

I added spider candles in black taper holders on each side of the hat.

They are delicately etched and it’s hard to appreciate the design from a distance. Here is a close-up of the candles.

Have you ever noticed that witches are often depicted with black cats? It seems that they have enjoyed an inextricable relationship in folklore, and black cats, in particular, have been alternately revered or reviled throughout history
.

.
.
I prefer that they are revered and in doing so, would like to introduce Cricket, our recent rescue, and a mostly-black with one white whisker tortie cat. At five months old, she is a 5 pound bundle of pure kitten chaos and will be a wonderful playmate for our one cat, Georgie Girl, once she learns some manners. Our other cat, Potpurri, is being a bit of a hissy bag right now but hopefully, she’ll come around with time.
I like to think that our sweet friend, Mary, from Home is Where the Boat is, who cared so deeply for animals, would have smiled at Cricket’s picture if she were here. Sadly, and as most people probably know, Mary passed away suddenly on September 27, 2026. Her creativity, her wonderful sense of humor, her beautiful and kind personality, and her joie de vivre in everything she did, are keenly missed.

I love your table, and it looks so beautiful in the candlelight. I also love that you paid such attention to detail down to those beautifully spooky candles. The touch of purple is wonderful here. It adds to the whole eerie effect. Clearly I don’t get to my local HomeSense often enough because I never see in the store the wonderful things that I am seeing on tables today.
Kim, your witchy centerpiece is so creative and fun and the scalloped plates are perfect for the occasion. Cricket is darling and I agree that Mary would have loved the sweet photo. Happy October, Cecilia – My Thrift Store Addiction
Love the black and purple!
My most favourite tables cape by far!! Wow – what a purrr-fect table for this time of year!! I love love, love the glasses & napkin rings….and so happy you were able to collect replacements for your lost dinnerware. Isn’t it strange how things suddenly go poof!! Your centrepiece is genius….it looks amazing!! And that table runner was an awesome find….it’s awesome…
I lost a great deal of my Christmas decor….when hubby inadvertently mistook the boxes for goodwill donation!! I needed to purge anyway…lol.
