Good morning dear friends and sweet readers!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful fall season. Our fall here in Calgary has generally been a very mild one with the exception of last week which was cold and wintry. The mild weather had lulled me into a false sense of security as far as Old Man Winter goes, and I found myself scrambling to get all the outside chores done before our first snow, which has since come and gone (thankfully). We are now into milder weather again so I can finish the rest of the outside chores lol.
Canadian Thanksgiving was several weeks ago and my oldest son and DIL decided they wanted to host this year. They put on a fabulous dinner, but I didn’t get a chance to set a Thanksgiving table here. So I am delighted today to be joining 13 other talented ladies in a blog hop hosted by Rita from Panoply to celebrate U.S. Thanksgiving. As always, thank you Rita! The links to all the other ladies’ posts can be found at the bottom of this post.

For this tablescape, I’m going to begin with the plate stack. The dinner plates are a collection from Pottery Barn known as Botanical Harvest which first came in around 2017 or 2018 and has been variably in stock since then. I can’t remember which year I brought these, but the dinner plates features four of our feathered friends. (My photos don’t really do them justice as parts of the feathers are gold embossed and I just couldn’t capture it.) There is a quail:

A pheasant:

And of course, a turkey: I’ve set them on some whitewashed wooden charger plates.

Jumping ahead to the center of the table, I started with a paisley runner in rust, brick, ivory, and blue colors, to name a few. To this I added a whitewashed doughbowl filled with a feather nest for Mr. Pheasant. He was a clearance item found at HomeSense recently, and he is surrounded by fall leaves and berries.

Jumping back to the place settings, the napkins match the runner, but no matter which napkin ring I tried, it got lost in the pattern. I also wanted some pattern separation between the runner and the napkins, and didn’t want to cover an pattern on the dinner plates, leaving me wit not a lot of options. I tried various configurations, and ended up with double napkins and folded the edge of ivory napkins over top of the paisley napkins.

Bronze twig flatware is a fall favorite and I simply laid the dinner and salad forks on the napkins I know I don’t need a salad fork since I have no salad plates, but I like the symmetry of two utensils on each side of the plates. Besides, salad forks can also be used for dessert – we’re ready for pumpkin pie!

Stemware was crystal goblets for water and stemless crackled champagne glasses for some Prosecco. The clear stemware coordinated the best from what I had on hand. I have to say that the strong pattern of the runner and napkins definitely dictated some more conservative/neutral choices for other elements of the table.

I think this is one centerpiece I would take off the table before dining lest we end up with feathers in our mashed potatoes and gravy…

HomeSense: Mr. Pheasant, water glasses.
Pier 1: Crackled champgane glasses, wooden chargers, twig flatware, all many years ago.
Pottery Barn: Botanical Harvest dishware. The table runner and napkins (Jacqueline Paisley) were an eBay find several years ago but were originally from Pottery Barn as well.
Dollarstore: Leaf and berry stems several years ago, I think.

I forgot to mention that I added some leaf fairy lights in the centerpiece. A few more shots as the sun started to go down.

Kim, this is a perfect Thanksgiving tablescape, and I’m thrilled you set it for our Thanksgiving. Happy belated Canadian Thanksgiving! I love the pheasant centerpiece, with the glow among the feathers is perfection. Love the set of PB Botanical Harvest plates atop the detailed white plates. Well done, my friend. Happy Autumn!
Absolutely beautiful! I remember seeing those plates at Pottery Barn, but couldn’t justify getting them considering I had so many other plates for Thanksgiving. I’m so glad that you did because I’m able to enjoy them on your table. The centerpiece is striking, and I particularly love it with the lights on. Your guests are going to be very pleased when they sit down to this table. I’m a fan of unique flatware, and I love your twig flatware. Happy Thanksgiving!
Kim, your feathered-friends theme is so charming and the color palette and accents you’ve selected are just lovely! Happy November, Cecilia – My Thrift Store Addiction
