Good morning!

Fall is definitely on its way here in Calgary despite a very hot and dry summer.  The days are noticeably shorter, the overnight lows have been dropping, and there is the slightest chill in the air in the morning.  Today I am sharing a fall tablescape in autumn colors.  I like both traditional and non-traditional colors for fall tablescapes, but this year’s fall colors were inspired by some placemats that I found in HomeSense as they were just starting to bring out their fall items.

I know I won’t be able to capture the sparkle of the beading, but here is the placemat.  I really liked the brick reds and muted orange colors in the pumpkins and the pale greens and golds in the stems and leaves.

Here is a closer look at the beading sans sparkle…

I was delighted to find that the placemats coordinated reasonably well with some napkins that I already had.

Here is the place setting.

I didn’t use a charger on this table as it would have covered up all the pattern in the placemats.

The plates are from Pier 1’s Harvest Wheat collection and they must be at least five years old now, maybe even older.  Its hard to believe that Pier 1 has been closed for going on three years here in Canada.  In any event, I love the texture of the wheat sheaves on these plates and that they are white means that they can be paired with just about anything.  The dinner and salad plates are very similar.

The stemware is my Waterford crystal glasses for water and some gold metallic leaf wine glasses that are difficult to photograph.

You might be able to see the leaf pattern a bit better on the glass on the left in this photo, although its hard to see even when you are holding them.  But they do cast a pretty glow on the table.

The flatware is silver with gold beading around the edge by Pfaltzgraff.  I’ve had it for a long time and no longer remember where it came from.

The centerpiece was easy peasy.  Its really a wreath that hangs on the door so all I had to do was set it down in place.  Plus, I can use it on the door when I’m finished with the table.

It has some pretty colored flowers in it.  I added a few from my stash to the one end since it was thinner.

We removed the leaf from this table a couple of months ago (or rather youngest son did because hubs and I couldn’t budge it) just to experiment.  This table is pretty full – mostly because the placemats take up a lot of room.  There is no room for candles at either end of the centerpiece so I tucked some leaf fairy lights into the wreath instead.

It is currently 31 degrees (~88 F) in Calgary as I finish this post and its been like this most of the summer.  Similar temps are predicted well into next week, the first week of September.  This is hot for us and for reference, our average daytime high at this time of year is 20 degrees (~68 F).  I’m very much hoping for some cooler weather soon, and I’ll bet others are too.  Wishing everyone a happy soon to be fall!

    1. Thanks so much Rita – I agree that those placemats should not be one-off and I’ll have to think of another way to use them. I will definitely email you. Thanks for visiting and I hope fall is on its way in your neck of the woods and we can all say good bye to the heat! Happy September to you too!

  1. What a GORGEOUS table! I love everything from the napkins to the white on white plates with the wheat design, to those magnificent placemats. Wow!

    1. Thanks so much Pattie! I’m not quite ready to wish away summer, but a taste of fall was nice. Glad you enjoyed it. I see you have a table up today too, so I’m on my way over there to see what loveliness you have shared! Happy Thursday to you and thanks for stopping by!

  2. Oh Kim I love love the beaded pumpkin placemats! Yes they look fabulous with your pumpkin napkins! I have a serious love for all things pumpkin so this table delights my pumpkin loving heart! Love the centerpiece too and the gold leaf goblets are beautiful! Happy September and I’m sure cooler temps are on the way!

    1. Oh thanks so much Jenna – so glad this table delights your pumpkin-loving heart! I’m betting you are wishing for cooler temps as well. I see tropical storm Danielle is percolating in the Atlantic down there and I’m crossing my fingers that she doesn’t make landfall (not supposed to as of now). I hope you have a lovely long weekend with the family in paradise!

  3. Happy September, Kim! I love the beaded pumpkin placemats, they are stunning. The napkins blend so well with the placemats and the wheat dishware is perfect. The wreath makes a beautiful centerpiece and is so clever to use what you have. Wishing you a lovely day and weekend!

    1. Thanks so much Pam! I’m not trying to rush fall or anything but we’ve had some really hot temps this summer and some relief from that would be so great (I know that I am singing to the choir here since its much hotter where you are lol!). I just popped over to your blog and was wowed by your round-up of beautiful fall tablescapes – a ton of inspiration! Wishing you a lovely day and weekend too!

  4. Oh that’s beautiful Kim! I LOVE the fairy lights you put in the centerpiece – what a gorgeous glow! Isn’t it fun to change things up? How are you liking the smaller table? I think it looks so cozy, especially with those new placemats and the gold leaf glasses. SO pretty! Happy September, my friend!

    1. Thanks Barbara! It’s been fun experimenting with the table size and certainly the table without the leaf is much easier on my centerpiece creating abilities so I think I’ll leave it that way for awhile. Plus, youngest son is in no hurry to change it back – he actually had to stand the table on its end on the floor to get the table back together after we took the leaf out – that’s how stiff and tight it was. Happy September to you too my friend and I am so happy for your ribbon at the tablescaping competition!!

  5. Most beautiful tables cape ever, Kim!! I’m so sad Pier 1 closed in NB…I loved visiting that store! Warm days here still as well..and like Albertans…we are not used to the heat. I’m a fall lover from way back!! Have an awesome weekend!

    1. Thanks so much Charlotte for your visit and comments. It is still sad about Pier 1 – there is just no comparable replacement that I’ve been able to find. I used to be a summer girl but the temps we’ve had the last few summers have been too hot for me. But I’m glad you will be able to enjoy your pool for a bit longer. Have an awesome weekend yourself!
