Good morning!

Sooo….  How is everyone doing out there?  I didn’t really want to talk about Covid, but its gotten really bad here in Alberta again.  And I’m wondering how people are making out with it where they live?  I can say that Covid is not behaving well here at all.  In fact, a provincial state of emergency was declared last week.  Our ICUs are bursting at the seams.  There is a whole host of new restrictions now in effect including those on social gathering.  Yup, basically no more family gatherings – and similar restrictions were just lifted on July 1st after seven months.  It lasted all of 10 weeks.  Say goodbye to Thanksgiving.  Sigh.

Moving on… we are having somewhat cooler weather here in Calgary and its time for a fall tablescape.  Fall colors often mean burnt oranges, crimsons, and golds – all of which I love – but these colors (and orange in particular) are not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea.  Today, I’m working with orange – not the glittery neon, often gaudy shades of Halloween, but in the softer shades of fall.

It all started so innocently.  My mom and I were in Michael’s recently, just checking out their fall offerings.  I was not looking for anything in particular and was just seeing what was there.  But wouldn’t you know it, as I browsed I came across some fall salad plates.  Pumpkin and gourds in some of the prettiest colors!  I should mention that I’m supposed to be on a dish diet this year, but what can I say?  These plates really appealed.  And they were 50% off!  Yup, I caved.

Not long after, I was in HomeSense and they had this tablecloth and these pale orange velvet pumpkins.  I was thinking of the salad plates and pinching myself.  Really?  That easy?  How is that even possible?  It was clearly meant to be…

I almost always forget to take a picture of the runner or tablecloth before I set the table.  Here is one from when I was dismantling the table.  There is a “garland” down the center but most of the pattern is on the borders.  Sorry for the poor light.

The salad plates had four different designs, but weren’t sold as a set, rather, individually.  Luckily, there was two of each.  In this table for six, I didn’t use the darkest orange plates and used two each of the other three instead.  The complete set will make another fall tablescape at some point.

This is the plate I didn’t use.  Interestingly, in the picture, it doesn’t look as dark as it does in real life…

Here is the complete table.  I paired the pumpkin plates with my ivory Mikasa dinner plates and added a distressed leaf charger.  Underneath the plate stack I used a felt leaf placemat from the dollar store.  It provides a little contrast between the charger and the tablecloth with just a bit of orange peeking through.

For the stemware, I used my etched leaf glasses from Williams Sonoma.  They match the subtle imprinted leaves and ferns on the tablecloth.

I used creamy white pom-pom napkins and hydrangea napkin rings.  I had to lean the napkin rings against the plate – otherwise they just fell over lol.

For the centerpiece, I started with a eucalyptus garland folded in half to add some width.  Tip:  I see Amazon now carries these garlands with fairy lights in them – that would have been really pretty for this tablescape.

I placed the pumpkins in the center, leaning against each other.  And then I added some small pumpkins, gourds, acorns, pinecones, and berries to the spaces between the large pumpkins.  The berry sprigs pick up on the berries in some of the salad plates.  I would say that this picture is the most accurate color of the pumpkins.

The days of sunlight in the dining room are long past now, so the lighting and photography have become a bit more challenging.

A view from above.

Happy fall y’all!  Sharing with Between Naps on the Porch.  Stay tuned for my Halloween tablescape coming next month!

  1. Kim, this is really pretty – and meant to be with the textile going so well with the plates. Love that color of your pumpkins too.
Our state of West Virginia was first in the nation for getting shots in the arms in early 2021. Restrictions lifted, and now our state is the WORST in the nation for Covid statistics per capita. It’s all such a twilight zone of life and living. I think I’ll be looking back on living in the condo as the Covid years – not a great thing to remember these years by, but it’s true. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the new home. I do think some celebratory dishes will be in order once we’re settled. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for your comments and stopping by Rita. Sorry to hear about the Covid situation there, and yes, perhaps not the best memories of the condo. But so happy for you and your new house – what fun it will be. And I hope your condo sells fast too. Take care and stay safe over there!

  2. Morning. Greetings from Ontario. Enjoyed your tablescape. The colours are lovely and dinnerware gorgeous.
Watching our Covid numbers here as the children are back in school. Stay safe.
Looking to seeing more of your tables.

    1. Good morning Pat and welcome! Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed the table. And yes, the kids back in school. Yikes. There’s no contact tracing or notification of positive cases in schools here. Parents are flying blind and my heart goes out to all of them. Oy, what a mess! Hope you are staying safe there and thanks for your visit and signing up. Take care!

    1. Thanks again Jenna – I wondered if the napkin rings might be more appropriate for spring/summer, but their colors seemed just right for the rest of the tablescape so I went with them. Take care!

  3. Oh Kim, I’m sorry you are under restrictions, not fun. Covid was spiking in Alabama this summer, but it seems to be slowing…I haven’t been going out to eat or to large gatherings, but we don’t have any mandatory restrictions as yet. Now for the important stuff, I LOVE this table! I know it’s hard to stay on a “dish diet” when you find irresistible plates! Those pumpkin plates are so pretty and the soft orange velvet pumpkins you found to go with them, swoon! Your centerpiece with the eucalyptus leaves, pumpkins and gourds is absolute perfection! Love the tablecloth too, you will enjoy all these things all fall and in the years to come, just beautiful!

    1. Thanks so much Jenna! Its definitely hard to stay on my diet with all the lovely plates out there, but I’d like to think I’m just a bit more mindful now lol. And I think you are right that I can use these things again – I will definitely try because there is nothing worse than using a tablescape only once! I’m sure glad you don’t have any mandatory restrictions – ours came down just in time for Thanksgiving which is about 3 weeks away. We now have vaccine passports as well. Jolly good fun! Happy to hear that things are reasonably good in your neck of the woods. Thanks for visiting and stay safe!

  4. Kim, your table is beautiful. I do love the tablecloth and the pretty pumpkin salad plates. The centerpiece is the perfect complement to the pumpkin plates. I am so sorry you are back again in a lockdown. Take care!

    1. Thank you Pam for your comments. Yes, the lockdowns were inevitable given the high transmissibility of Delta, but disappointing nonetheless. I am hoping that the nice weather persists and maybe we can at least gather outside. I hope that you are still able to gather. Thanks for your visit and you take care too!

  5. Lovely. The softer colors are so pretty. I love the chargers, wish we still had Pier 1 – the original version! And the cute pom pom napkins are so sweet. It was funny what you said about having to ‘lean’ the napkins rings on the plate, lol.

    1. Thanks for your comments JJ. Yes, the toppling napkin rings lol. I too wish we still had the original Pier 1 – the online version is a poor second imho. Hope you are staying safe and thanks so much for your visit!

    1. Thanks so much Barbara! I hope that things are better for you there, and I hope you staying safe as well. So lovely to hear from you and take care lovely lady!
