Home and garden, tablescaping, organization, DIY

Good morning and I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season so far.  Today I am joining 16 other stylists  in a Christmas tablescape blog hop hosted by the fabulous Rita from Panoply.  Thank you Rita!  You can see all the other stylists’ links at the end of this post – please check them out because you will not be disappointed.  If you are coming here from Shannon at Belle Bleu Interiors – wasn’t her table gorgeous – or if you have landed here on your own, either way a very warm welcome.

There were a few favorite items that inspired this Christmas table.  The first was a pair of deer that I found in our local grocery store several years ago and have used them on our Christmas dinner tables previously.  I loved the color of them and they have a tiny bit of glitter.  Sadly, in the intervening years, Mr. Reindeer suffered an unintended altercation with a feline foe and was, unfortunately, not the victor.

He sat in this state for several years as I debated what to do since I don’t trust my gluing skills.  I finally broke down and asked for help.  Didn’t oldest son do a fantastic job of restoring him?  Thank you Ty!

Here is Mr. Reindeer’s mate.  Is she not beautiful too?

The second item that inspired the table was this antler candelabra – a clearance item from Williams Sonoma, also several years ago.  I set the deer and the candelabra on a faux snow leopard runner topped with fresh cedar boughs from the local gardening center.  I added some rustic ornaments and silver and gold bells for some Christmas cheer.

For the place settings, I used my distressed snowflake salad and dinner plates.  They were a gift from middle son and then girlfriend, now DIL, maybe five or six years ago.  I don’t know what it is about things distressed that I like so much but these plates have graced our Christmas table every year since then.  They are definitely favorites and that they are imperfect only adds to their charm in my humble opinion.

I layered the plates on faux wood chargers and paired them with green plaid napkins and reindeer napkin rings.

Stemware was Waterford “water” glasses and snowflake wine glasses, the latter also a favorite and used here.

The sun is very low in the sky at this time of year and it gets dark so early.  I’m not a huge fan of overhead lighting and much prefer candles for their soft glow and ambience.  A photography light doesn’t hurt either, although it’s a bit of an eyesore – both literally and figuratively – when dining.

Resources:

Table runner, snowflake wine glasses, snowflake dinnerware, and napkins: Old Pier 1 several to many years ago

Antler candelabra: Williams Sonoma several years ago

Faux wood charger plates: Walmart maybe last year??  All I remember is that they were $1.97 each 🙂

Wooden reindeer napkin rings: Michaels several years ago

Rustic ornaments: HomeSense many years ago

I think the silver and gold bells might have been from Pier 1 too, but I’ve seen similar in the dollar store

A parting overhead shot.

  1. This is just lovely Kim! Your son did a fabulous job repairing Mr Reindeer – could you send him down here, and I’ll show him to my Things-To-Be-Repaired drawer …!? 🤣 I love the plates and reindeer napkin rings too, and the green in your napkins is so perfect with your fresh greenery. A really wonderful table my friend!! Happy Holidays!

    1. Barbara I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who has a treasure trove of things to be repaired – only Mr. Reindeer didn’t quite fit in my bowl of broken goodies so he has been sitting in the corner on the dining room floor for the last several years – so I was tickled pink when Ty was able to fix him! I’ll let him know that if he ever needs a job that there is a ton of tablescaping ladies with plenty of work to keep him busy lol. Glad you liked the table. Thanks so much for stopping by – it was lovely to see you. Happy holidays to you too!!

  2. Kim, this is such an elegant and beautiful Christmas table. The snowflake plates are so pretty. Your son did a wonderful job repairing your deer. The deer, greens, and candles make such a gorgeous centerpiece. I hope that you have a joyous Christmas season!

    1. Shannon, thank you for stopping by and leaving such lovely comments. I loved your table as well and that centerpiece – oh my! It is a pleasure hopping with you and all these lovely ladies who have so much inspiration to share. I hope that you and your family have a most joyous season as well!

  3. Oh my goodness, Kim, I am in love with your rustic and refined tablescape. You have captured the snowy, woodland scene perfectly. Yes, Ty did a great job on the restoration of your deer. That WS candelabra is stunning. The furry runner looks realistically like animal fur, and the ornaments just the right touch. I love the snowflake stoneware. I saw a pattern similar to it recently, and did well not to buy it, but have been thinking about it ever since (hoping for a clearance!). Your overall table is just really nice and being neutral, wouldn’t compete with any other decorations you might have. Even though I typically go red and green, this really appeals to my need for winter calm in the Christmas chaos.
Thank you for being a part of this group. It’s been a great year of inspiring work, and I appreciate your contributions. Merry Christmas season to you and your family!

    1. Rita, thank you for your lovely comments and I’m so glad you like the table. The snowflake plates are some of my favorites here; re the snowflake plates you saw, I once heard a saying: Life is short, buy the shoes. Only in our case it would be buy the the plates or goblets or chargers or napkins lol. Thank you for having me a part of this fantastic and inspiring group – it has been an absolute pleasure. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

  4. Kim, I love love love this table!! Your antler candelabra and your deer are fabulous. You have set a beautiful table featuring them. I love the rustic look and all the wonderful textures. Your neutral color pallet is done perfectly. Between the greenery and the snowflake plates, it looks like a scene out of a winter wonderland. Love it all!! I hope you have a very merry Christmas season!🎄🤶

    1. Hi Ann! I’m so glad that you loved the table – it’s definitely a favorite here. There was no snow here when I set it up and took the photos but we got four inches of snow yesterday. Winter is officially here. I loved your table as well; the nutcracker theme was beyond cute and those plates were such a fabulous find. Thank you for stopping by and commenting and its was lovely hopping with you. I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas season as well!

  5. Kim do you suppose you could send your son my way as I have a reindeer that I broke his antlers several years ago and I, like you just couldn’t part with him but have not been able to repair…yet! You give me hope that I will get to mine very soon. Your table is lovely and the antler candle holders are something I have not seen before and are perfect for your table. The snowflake plates are just the right amount of white to co-ordinate with your other pieces. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

    1. Oh my goodness Kari. I laughed and laughed when I saw your comment. Of course Ty would love to come down there to your beautiful Florida and fix some reindeer antlers – just let him know when and where lol! The antler candelabra was a one season item I think because I haven’t seen them since, and this was three, maybe four years ago now. Thank you for your lovely comments on the table and wishing you, the Captain, and all your family a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too!

The soft greens and white are a lovely color palette for your snowy scene and the deer are quite elegant-your son did a masterful job restoring the broken deer. Your snowflake plates are so pretty and they are even more special being a gift from your son and DIL. I love the reindeer napkin rings and the plaid napkins look perfect. 1. Hi Jenna! Yes, the snowflake plates are pretty special and I’m sure they’ll be on the table again in a few short weeks. Oh my gosh, its hard to believe that Christmas is just over two weeks away – I am so behind that I feel like I’m in first place. I’m really glad that you liked the table and it was a pleasure to join you on this hop. I hope you and your family have a fabulous Christmas as well!

  8. Kim, even though my Scottie was attacked by a female deer this summer, I’m smitten with your table! I love the deer elements, particularly that unique and stunning antler candelabra! I have a deer theme for my outdoor decorations that include tow animated, life size gold deer and other deer in the urns flanking the door — so your table really appeals to me. Have a very merry Christmas! Pinned!

    1. Oh Debbee, I remember Whiskey’s run-in with the deer – it was pretty scary as I recall – so I am so glad your are smitten with the deer on the table. These ones are harmless lol. Your outdoor deer theme sounds fabulous and I bet it looks magnificent, if I know you! Thank you for stopping by and commenting and thanks for pinning too. Have a very merry Christmas yourself!

    1. Ha Mary! I’m so glad that you wouldn’t have known where the reindeer was broken – I thought Ty did a really great job too. I wouldn’t have known either except that I know where to look lol. I’m just so delighted that he was able to repair my favorite reindeer. The embossed snowflake plates are favorites here too, and as you say, will do for the entire winter season (which is typically very long here and usually extends into March). Thank you for your visit and comments and it was a such a treat to join you on this blog as well. Merry December and happy Christmas to you too!

I’m so glad that you liked the table – its definitely one that we use here often for Christmas and I couldn’t agree more that some “calm” during this busy season is always a good thing. That being said, I also love the joy and energy of the traditional Christmas colors. It was a pleasure hopping with you as well and you are always welcome to pull up a chair at my table. Merry Christmas to you too, my friend!

I really like your rustic deer/woodland theme. And yes your son did an excellent job repairing your deer! I love the center of your table, especially the white ornaments: They remind me of snow and ice. I also like the snowflake plates and the silver jingle bells. This table really makes me smile! Merry Christmas!

    1. Ricki Jill, there is absolutely no shortage of snow and ice here at this time of year lol. You just have to roll with it ’cause there is no other way to deal with it! I’m glad the table made you smile and I loved your table as well. It’s hard to believe that!Christmas is less than three weeks away – where did the time go? It was a pleasure hopping with you and Merry Christmas to you too!

  12. The centerpiece is eye-catching with its mix of organic elements and holiday glam. Those sorts of combinations always make tablescapes so interesting. Then throw in green plaids and candlelight alongside seasonal dinnerware and it is charmingly festive! A holiday table for lingering at! Have very merry Christmas

    1. Sandra, thank you for your lovely comments. Christmas dinner is definitely one of the times we linger around the table so I’m always wanting to set a festive table. It reminds me of a lush wintry forest. It’s a peaceful setting. the plaid napkins add a nice contrast to the greenery and the white china. It all comes together to create a story. Merry Christmas!
    Lynne

    1. Ha Lynne! I agree – I’m convinced that between my three boys, they can do anything! I would be lost without them. I love the traditional Christmas colors of red and green, but I’m a great lover of a neutral palette as well. We’ve set variations of this table for many Christmases in a row and it always seems to work. Thank you for our comments and wishing you a very Merry Christmas as well!
